Question for people involved with event organizing.

So I am just wondering where the entry fee money goes? I realize that there are expenses that athletes don't know about, just wondering what they are? I just picked up my race package for Calgary 70.3 and I am a little disappointed. With the sponsors for the event being who they are, I would have expected a few more goodies (or at least some goodies). I mean 2XU, not expecting a new race suit, but maybe a t-shirt in the bag, a couple of power bars, maybe a water bottle from Profile Design. Toss in some sunscreen for good measure and now you are starting to feel like you are getting something for your $200-$250

I used to organize major events for a different sport. One of the sponsor requirements on top of a cash commitment, was something to go into the registration bag. At two events I did a major sunglass manufacturer supplied a pair of sunglasses for every athlete. No one ever walked away with less value in their bag than they had paid in entry fees.

What is the norm for triathlons? I know I sound a little negative right now, but I was expecting a little more from our sports biggest name.
