Subject: Lance/Spanish Press?

Anyone know what specifically La refers to in this Twitter entry?

"Gotta love the Spanish press. I understand their enthusiasm but does it really have to change reality?? C'mon, fellas. We aren't stupid."

Well.... I *suspect* he's referring to the articles in the Spanish papers which probably have a different view of events than the American papers. (Here, the papers seem to support Lance, while saying that Alberto wasn't a team player. In the Spanish papers, I would think they'd probably support Alberto, while saying that Lance was the one holding him back.)

I did try to translate a Spanish article online. But the translation came out a little strange. (Which is understandable. Some things just don't translate well. For example, other cultures have a tough time with our, "It's raining cats and dogs." They tend to look at the rain, then look at us like we're crazy.)

I don't know what he was referring to specifically, but last Monday I was reading one of the Spanish papers and wrote this in a different thread:

I was just reading the Spanish press regarding the Tour, Armstrong/Contador feud, etc.  Quite a different storyline which I suppose isn't surprising!

The gist of the articles is that Contador was the stongest rider but also the victim.  Lots of focus on being isolated by a team following Armstrong's lead in trying to make him the odd-man-out.  Apparently there wasn't much talking to him at team meals, and public/twitter comments by LA, LL, JB really stung.  Once AC had to bum a ride from his brother to get to the race start since the team car he thought would be taking him was comandeered to pick up LA's family at the airport, but nobody bothered to tell AC.

Lots of people over there think AC was treated very unfairly by his team and was not supported during the race nor in the off hours.  Probably some truth in all of this also.

Some good stuff here if you read Spanish

The headline is, "The sore loser of Astana."

The first line is (rough translation)... "What little class and sore loser  demonstrated by Team Astana with Lance Armstrong ... by the final stage was occupied by Alberto Cantador in the end."

It goes on to say that the attack that Cantodor made which was criticized by the team was the only reason that Armstrong was on the podium.

There was a lot of colorful language about respecting the yellow jersey.

Funny side note, I am not used to seeing men's pictures associated with articles on synchronized swimming.

It's not "hate" exactly... let me refer you to the "Winning Ugly" thread on this forum. There was some spirited discussion about this subject there.
