Is there a benefit with using compression socks for the IM or is it just a fad. I saw lots of athletes at L.P. with compressions socks on.

I wore compression socks for CdA.  I had never worn then before and have absolutely nothing to compare my results to, so it's hard to say if there was a benefit.  I had a good day and ran fairly well, but that's probably due to fitness and not socks!

Honestly, I won't wear them again next time.  I didn't even want to wear them this time, but was coerced into doing so.  To me, they're too expensive and if there's a benefit, it's marginal.

There are a lot of differing opinions on this, but from what I have read (and experienced) they are best used for recovery.  I use them after all of my long runs, and I really notice a difference with much less soreness and quicker recovery.  I was very interested but didn't want to spend a lot of money, so I just bought a pair of the medical compression socks from Rite-Aid--total cost around $4.  Well worth it, if you ask me.
