Socorro, New Mexico
United States
City Of Socorro
Total Time = 1h 07m 26s
Overall Rank = 33/320
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 3/16
Pre-race routine:

Drove with the wife down to the race.
Event warmup:

Swam 200m in the super nice outdoor 50m pool.
Swim
  • 07m 15s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

Decided to take it easy during the swim. I also had my heartrate monitor on for the first time during a race, and everytime I kicked off the wall, it slipped a little bit. I passed two people, and was passed by a couple as well. I think I could have gone a bit faster, but the few seconds gain wouldn't have been worth the exhaustion coming out of the pool.
Transition 1
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

Felt slow. Getting my shoes on took awhile.
Bike
  • 35m 24s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 21.07 mile/hr
Comments:

I didn't have the power I wanted on the bike, but felt pretty good going at 20-22mph. I like this course, because you do all the hard work up front, then cruise downhill to the transition area.
What would you do differently?:

Get out on the bike more and practice.
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

My shoe flew off the pedal when I dismounted. A very nice volunteer brought it to me in transition area. Thanks!
Run
  • 22m 11s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Not sure how I feel about this run. I think I could have gone harder and pushed a sub 21min. Its always about damage control at this point during the race. I had a guy to chat with during the first mile, then I paced myself with him to the finish.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank some water, waited for the wife to finish. Got 3rd for age group. Drank beer at Socorro Springs.

Event comments:

I love this race. A good time had by all.

Sounds like fun race and congrats on hardware!

My husband went to school in Socorro and keeps wanting to take me there and figures a race might make it fun...some year.

Do it!  This race is a good time.  Here in NM, we have a bunch of pool swims because of the few open bodies of water.  You live in MA?  What part? I went to college in Boston.
