Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5am, got dressed and headed to the car which was already packed. Was at the race site at 5:15. I love local races. :)
Event warmup:

I actually did warm up for the second or third time ever. I jumped in the water and swam a few laps. Not sure why. Just bored.
Swim
  • 05m 53s
  • 328 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was one of the toughest swims I've ever done, and it was in a pool haha. The lanes were SUPER narrow so it was really hard to pass. After following some guy for 2 lengths without having an opportunity to pass, I finally barreled down the middle of the lane and overtook him. I ended up passing 3 people total, but it was a fight with all of them. I lost a ton of time just waiting behind people.
What would you do differently?:

Not register for a pool swim race.
Transition 1
  • 00m 44s
Comments:

Long T1. Had to run out the south side of the gym, then run around to the north side where transition was. Did the deed.
What would you do differently?:

I need to learn to have my shoes clipped in the bike in T1.
Bike
  • 35m 3s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 21.28 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike was long. Tailwind all the way to the turnaround, headwind back. Passed 5 or 6 people before the turnaround, then kept my sights set on the guy in front of me who I never caught. I got passed twice, once by Ben (who ended up winning overall) and some 40 year old. I felt really strong on the bike. Nothing too exciting to report.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Transition 2
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

Fast T2. My transition area was set up over a huge puddle of water and I accidentally stepped in it, getting my foot all muddy. Other than that, went great.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to run sockless. One of these days...
Run
  • 25m 37s
  • 3.3 miles
  • 07m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Run was long. Really long. Two loops around TWU campus. Long downhill at the start, then very gradually climbed up hill for the rest of the loop. Not many flat spots at all. The first loop really seemed to drag on, but the second loop went by super fast. The course was set up nicely and we hit 4 aid stations.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out with Ben by the finish line and cheered on the rest of the UNT'ers who came through the finish chute.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of sleep the night before and not eating breakfast.

Dude...fantastic job!! You've gotten super fast man. I know the feeling on the whole pool swim thing. No fun. My very first race at ucla was in a pool and I thought it was super lame. Sounds like the race was a ton of fun! I'm finally back on a bike now...I've got some work to do to catch back up. Take care dude. :-)
