I will be in Utica next week and I'm looking for a pool or OWS area. Also need some area to run, the city seems to be one big shopping mall, there has to be some open area somewhere.

Thanks

Stony Creek looks great. Thanks for the reply!

Stoney is my personal favorite.  You will love it.  The loop around the lake is 6 miles and every quarter mile is marked.  There are lots of trails too if you need some time off the path.  They are great and challenging, and shady if its hot.

What's the deal with OWS at Stoney?  Which beach is best to go to and do you have to stay inside the marked-off swim areas?

Baypoint Beach is the only approved OWS area at stony.

It's on the north side of the lake. It's got a 200m area roped off, go back..and forth..and back..and forth. The water's not clear like trout or spring mill.

You take your chances doing anything else.

BTW, the bike and run at stony are the best in the area. Safe, 2/3 of the pavement is butter smooth, there's a great running path, and there's a 9-mile option on the ride (as opposed to 6) that includes the nature center and two good hills. I like that option. And if you're bringing a MTB, amazing trails, plus a MTB terrain park (think X-games, but in a Michigan kinda way). Goodstuff.

Wow, Stoney Creek is a great park! Couldn't swim due to an occurrence of e-coli, which happens when it's hot, maybe today. Next time I'm bringing my bike up also! Now I'm thinking about how to get out of my meetings this afternoon so I can get a brick in.

Adding to the Stony bike discussion, don't skip the trips out to the nature center and down to the golf course.  Both offer some great downhill action and the uphill haul back out that comes with them.  The pavement is a bit rough down to the golf course, but silky smooth out to the nature center, except for two bumps as you take the bridge over the road (get up out of your saddle on these).
