Total Time = 2h 39m 16s
Overall Rank = 90/255
Age Group = Clydes - U40
Age Group Rank = 1/7
Pre-race routine:

Race started at 7.30am, my wave at 7:48
Woke up at 5am, had about 50 min drive. By the time I loaded the car, it was 6:20am until I got there

Parking was a little off-site, so the time for preperation was just about right

Had 1 ClifBar, 2 bananas, some Heed and a coffee, that combination seems to work best for me, no issues later on ;-)

Event warmup:

As always, nothing really
Swim
  • 25m 41s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 43s / 100 meters
Comments:

When I jumped in, I nearly lost my HR strap, had to stop and put it back on
After that it went okay, felt a few times like slowly loosing it
I guess it is better to put it on in T1 without wet suit
What would you do differently?:

Leave HR strap in T
Transition 1
  • 02m 13s
Comments:

No 3 out of 7 Clydes
Had 1 gel and a bit of Heed
What would you do differently?:

I need to start practicing leaving my shoes on the bike
Bike
  • 1h 14m 58s
  • 24.75 miles
  • 19.81 mile/hr
Comments:

The wind felt pretty bad, as the course was so flat
Used my Trek 1000 without aero bars
After all the miles of the last few weeks without aeorbars I got used to that
Had approx 18mph avg on my way out, the way back was fun

Had one bottle of Heed
What would you do differently?:

Cant wait for my new bike!
Transition 2
  • 01m 51s
Comments:

Was no 4 out of 7 Clydes
Had 1 gel and a bit of Heed
What would you do differently?:

Maybe I should start and take the gel with me on the run
Run
  • 54m 34s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

I started out with a 8:30 pace, hoping that later in the run I would be able to push harder, but rather I got slower by the mile...

The heat was pretty immense (by the time of the run it must have been 80+), but in comparison I seemed to have dealt with that better than others, pretty unusual that I would be around the middle of the field in the 35-39 AG

Mile splits
8:24, 167
8:33, 170
8:42, 171
8:38, 175
8:54, 173
9:03, 174
8:38, 176
What would you do differently?:

Loose weight, more tempo runs
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of water, some beer, fruits

Met rottieguy, his wife and TrishM

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The bike should get better with the new bike
Other than that I really need to focus on the run, that is where I am loosing the most time

Event comments:

Very good race
Flat course helps with the times
Lots of volunteers on the bike course, just once a policeman overestimated my distance and signaled a car to go, but the driver luckily saw me, needed to slow down just a little

Juergen,
Great Race Report and great job out there on the course.  Your swim and bike times are tremendous!  I'm wondering what your new bike is (you should have it by the time of this post).  It looks like you had a very good race and that weekend had crazy hot temperatures across the whole midwest.

Anyway, I really, really wanted to do the Sylvania Tri this year but I opted to stay closer to Chicago by doing the Pleasant Prairie Oly just over the border from us in Wisconsin.  I have family close to Sylvania in Temperence, MI and Holland/Toledo, OH so I visit there about 5-6 times a year.

Will you be doing this same race next year?  If so shoot me a PM.  Hope your race on 8/23 is another success and I hope you get some killer times on your new bike!

Eddie
