Bottom Bracket Question

Veteran  282  |  Subject: Bottom Bracket QuestionMy current BB has a lot of miles on it and is starting to "skip a beat." I'd like to replace it but need to make sure I'm buying the right thing. I'm running an FSA SL-K carbon compact crankset with a 68mm MEGA EXO BC1.37X24T BB (English) A friend has a brand new Dura Ace 7800 68mm BC1.37X24 BB (English) Are the two interchangeable, or do I have to stick with FSA because the crankset is FSA? Trying to learn this stuff so I can save a little $ at the shop! Thanks in advance, -j |

Expert 1484 | Subject: RE: Bottom Bracket Question You need to use FSA. BTW all of the people I know with FSA BB don't like them, find they get gunky and wear quickly. I just replaced my SRAM BB and debated whether or not to use an other stock one or go ceramic. I ended up doing this: http://www.enduroforkseals.com/id226.html That is the FSA one. Better seals than stock, better bearings, spins smoother and not is not crazy $$$ like other ceramic options. |

Member 86 Columbia, MD | Subject: RE: Bottom Bracket Question Both FSA and Shimano say no. I've used an FSA crank with a hollowtech2 BB, about 12k miles on that setup no problems. The frame I had at the time used an Itallian thread BB, and FSA didn't offer that at the time, so it was Shimano or nothing. I've also used a XT (shimano) crank with a megaexo BB, also no probs. In other words, yes, they are interchangeable. You could spend all day with a micrometer on both and not find a single measurement that's different, only the color.
