Swim
Comments: I had an awesome swim, I not only caught the wave in front of me, but I caught and passed the wave in front of it as well. I rocked the swim, I got into a groove, and just cranked. I guess I was excited about swimming in the canal, as I just plugged away and enjoyed the swim. What would you do differently?: The swim got crowded around the end, I think I need to find a quicker way around the people getting up the steps - they were being really pokey. I *may* think about getting a swim skin for these type of events. I don't know that it would have helped much though, as I am already a good swimmer. I think with practice, I can drop about 5 minutes off for next year. That'd put me in the top 10 or 15 total for the swim. Transition 1
Comments: I have never sat down in transition before. While putting on my socks, I fell and decided to just stay down, get my socks on and go. What would you do differently?: Learn the flying leap with the shoes on the bike. I don't know that socks were entirely necesary. Powder in my socks, they were hard to get on wet feet. Bike

7:46:44am start
Started off the morning with a 4am alarm clock that got snoozed a time or 4. Got up, ate some oatmeal and a cup of coffee, double checked my packing, um, did my business, and headed on out. Drank about 20oz of Gu2O and had some of my expresso Gu before I headed from transition to the swim start.
Ran the 1500M from transition to the swim start, got my heart rate pumping a little, and I think it was a good warm up for me. Once at the swim start, I hopped in the canal and just hung out in the water for a bit. "Official" temp was 78, but that may have been to make it wetsuit legal, it definetly felt warmer than that. I am glad I opted to not wear a wetsuit. I think I'll have to break down and get a swim skin for next year, the Xterra one is quite groovy.
