So who is doing Lake Lemon this year? My buddy went out last Friday and road the bike course. He said the climb out of transition is pretty steep. Lots of hills the bike.

I am a go for this one. Where did you find the bike course map?  I didn't see a link to it on their site.
I did the Hoosierman in Bloomington and if the course is anything like that, wow. Yeah, my heart about exploded out of T1.

Rode the bike course today. Not too bad. The way out you can fly. The way back in is a little tough. The roads weren't too bad either. Should be a pretty cool race. The lake area is really nice.

I'm a little worried about that first hill out of and into transition. It looks like there will be 4 lanes of traffic on that hill during the race. Bike start, bike finish, run start and run finish. I think it will be pretty crowded in that area. I'm interested to see how the race organizers handle it.

Just did the bike course myself today.  Not too bad.  I thought that the hill at the T before the High Way was rough.  Even on the way down.  I didn't know if I was going to get my bike stopped!!!

Yeah, I know what you mean! I hope they have traffic control there! That is going to be an interesting part of the course on race day!

Are you guys planning on having a wet suit? I checked into renting one from T3 Multisports. It might be a little chilly if the weather keeps cooling off.

I was thinking about a wetsuit.  I did the hoosierman and was fine. The water temp that day was 69 I think.  I probably wont, unless it really starts dropping.  I just got a new 2xu elite tri suit I was wanting to see if it makes a difference in the water.  For 30 bucks though, ya can't go wrong renting from t3.

Has anyone done this race before? How do they handle the 4 lane traffic on the hill out of the transistion? 4 lanes of traffic, one of them at 40+ mph, skinny road with curve.... etc.

My understanding was this was the first year for this. I could be wrong though.  Hopefully everything will go smoothly. I did the one at lake Monroe a few months ago, same deal, we biked up the road into the park. No problems at all. Hopefully this will be the same.

Question???  Some websites say the swim is 500 meters.  The race web site says .5 miles, but the map of the coarse reads 500 meters.  So how long is the swim??

They have had races at this site through the years, it was the regional long course site back in the early 90's

Just did the Lake Lemon tri this morning.  While I found the course to be beautiful, that is about the only good thing I can say about it.  Well, there were a bunch of other nice racers who I met.  But the race is NOT for beginner's (this was my first triathlon ever) and the race organizer lied to me about how there were so many beginner's doing it.  The biggest problem was the lack of organization and consideration by the race "organizers"...  It was obviously a college kid frat race, with some locals thrown in (possibly some hardcore triathletes who wanted a challenging hill course).  When I spoke to the race organizer about the issues I had with the lack of organization, he was completely rude and entirely defensive in his response, and basically blamed me as if I should have known.  I drove 5 hours to the race.  How very unfriendly to "outsiders" he was. I trained in flat land, and take responsibility for choosing a course with hills in the first place.  But many other racers told me that the kids along the race were busy text messaging, and not paying attention to or helping racers in any way.  For example, when I asked where to go for the run at the bike-run transition, the kid posted there said "I don't know" and some older lady directed me finally.  Don't waste your time with this race in the future.

I had a good time at the race today. There was a definite lack of organization, but it was the inaugural event so some of that is to be expected. Clipon and I briefly spoke to the race organizer after the race about some things they could do to improve next year. He was very receptive. I agree that this isn't a good race for a first timer. The course is just brutal with all the hills. It's great if your looking for a major challenge, but if your looking to complete your first Tri I think some other races would be better suited. I'll be interested to see if this race actually happens again next year.

Btw, yes I was the dork that missed the second wave start. I wasn't really sure what the time was, and took off to switch my goggles because it didn't look like they were going to start anytime soon. Apparently they gave a 30sec (no PA system) right as I took off. Oh well. My fault for taking the wrong goggles down to the water.

I had a pretty good time at the race. However, I will say if I hadn't have had a few under my belt I would have had no clue what was going on.  Definitely not a first time friendly race. I thought the course was awesome though. The run course was brutal. I thought my neighborhood had hills.
