Subject: Woke up with pain in my foot; My race is in 4 days

I am not sure what I should or even can do. Last night while i was on the computer I started noticing some sorness in my left foot. Located on top of the foot, on the ouside edge between the arc and the ankle. I didn't think to much of it and went to bed. Later that night I woke up thirsty and as I got up to get a drink I noticed the foot pain had gotten considerable worse. This morning when I got up it was at the point that I could barely walk on it.

As I am sitting here at work it does not pan me at all, just some slight soreness when I move it around. There also is very little swelling and no discoloration that I can see. The only time it bothers me is when I try and walk. Anytime I put weight on the foot it get very painful. As soon as I take the weight off the pain goes away, with no throbing or anything like that.

My training the past few days has been pretty lite. I havent run in three days (Saturday) and felt no dicomfort of any kind when I did. I biked on Sunday and took Monday off. I had planned on doing a lite run today then bike tomorrow and then have short swim thursday as I get ready for my race saturday morning.

Now I am not sure what I should do. Even if I scheduled to see a doctor I am not sure I could get in before my race Saturday. And he would most likely just tell me to stay off it til the pain went away.

I guess what I am thinking of doing is to scrap running and biking the rest of the week and just swim the next 3 days and hope the pain goes away before Saturday.

Does anyone have any other advice they can give me. Saturdays race was going to be my big one for the year. It was going to be my first International distance tri and I really hope i do not miss it.

Thanks all in advance.

Mark

I'm not a doctor but you are describing my foot injury to a tee.
I have posterior tibular tendonitis. It is mostly gone now, but still starts to come back once in awhile.   I think your posterior tibular tendon is involved too the way you describe the path of your pain.  If it was garden variety pf the pain would be more on the bottom of your foot.  However the two do often go together I am told.
Mine is chronic.  If I had known 9 months ago what I know now I could have got rid of it MUCH faster.
1.  Stretch.  there is something tight between your hip and your foot causing this pain.  stretch it.  Mine actually got worse sometimes when I didn't use it for a few days, it just cramped up.
2.  Massage. Go see someone who does deep rolfing...yesterday.

good luck!

That sounds like a very good idea. I'll give myself a good stretch during my lunch work-out. I also scheduled an appointment with a sports doctor in town but true to form I cant get in to see him til thursday. it's still probably a good idea to have a chance to talk to a doc about my training anyway.
