Hello

I came to Triathlon from road biking.  So prior to getting bite by the tri-bug I road my bike 4 plus days a week to include weekend rides of 40-60 on Saturday & Sunday.

So in June 09 I dicided to get out of my comfort zone and do something different. Triathlon seemed like the ticket to really work my now 50 year old body.

Today after 6 or 7 weeks of tri training I wanted to go on a longer bike ride like I use to do every weekend.  I took my swim test, did a little T-1 practice and jumped on the bike.  After timing my 10 mile Sprint distance I continued with the rest of my ride.  I found that my legs were very sluggish the last ten miles of my 33 mile ride.

So have others had this same situation where your strong event prior to starting triathlon training suffers trying to get the second two parts up to snuff?

So for me my bike riding seems to have suffered as I continue to work on my swimming and running. I will say that I am in better shape and my I have more muscles showing in my chest, arms & legs.

I am fine with the change but was wondering if others have this same situation.

Kevin

I started off a runner but it no longer loves me the way I love it.  I have made improvements in swimming and biking but I consider myself the "mediocre at 3 sports" kind of triathlete.

Whatever, I am in better shape than I have ever been and enjoy the process.

I started out as a swimmer. I used to place in the top 5 women in the swim. Biking and running were another story. Fast forward 4 years. Now my bike is the strongest event for me, with swimming being second and running dead last. Goal for next year is to work on running speed and I suspect my bike strength will suffer. I hope to limit my losses, but it will be worth it if I can improve my run to "average" instead of the suckfest it is for me right now
