Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:55 and had some coffee. Transition was closing at 6:40 so I wanted to be at the site by 5:45 or so. I think I left the house after shower and coffee around 5:25 or 5:30.

Brought coffee in Jeep -drank it. Brought 4 scoops Perpetuem in water bottle - drank it in transition.

Go to transition in time to leisurely set up and use the facilities. Grabbed my stuff as they were closing transition and walker to the start.
Event warmup:

none
Swim
  • 33m 27s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

Fairly good swim for me without a wetsuit. I was able to draft well at the start but then the fast guys pulled away and i was stick in between the front pack and the trailers for the entire second half of the swim.

I sighted fairly well but felt I swayed a bit off course around the 1000 meter mark. Not many buoys out there.

My goal for teh swim was 32:00 so I was close to that. It's improving slowly, but I still have a lot of work to do on my swim.
What would you do differently?:

not a whole lot
Transition 1
  • 02m 27s
Comments:

Had a problem in that I ran with the bike in my left hand and needed to switch so I could mount with my right foot forward.

I also had a real difficult time getting my feet in my shoes.
What would you do differently?:

run on the right side of the bike.
Bike
  • 1h 05m 28s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 22.77 mile/hr
Comments:

Good bike for me. I think it was a PR on the bike split for an OD. I lost one stinger from top tube in transition. Good thing I had two on there just in case. I felt my inner quads tighten up and cramp a bit when I started the bike leg from the extra effort on the swim without the wetsuit. I took a salt tab immediately.

The ride was good after that. I did not see too much drafting and I had sufficient room to pass others. I drank my full bottle and took another salt pill later in the ride.
Transition 2
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

none - good transition. Found my spot quickly. Put on sicks because of current blister situation and took off.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 42m 8s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 06m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

ran hard - really screwed up by misreading the signs into lap 2/finish. ran hard - it hurt. was fairly impressed I could keep up the pace and finish strong.
What would you do differently?:

read the signs better
Post race
Warm down:

none. water and found Robin and Jake, grabbed a few snacks here and there.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not starting my off-season before the race.
