Ironman North America
81F / 27C
Sunny
Total Time = 11h 32m 26s
Overall Rank = 357/2397
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 53/356
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4, coffee and bagels. Slept like the dead the night before the race.
Event warmup:

Swam a bit and starred at the sky while floating on my back.
Swim
  • 1h 18m 36s
  • 4224 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

Decided to play with the real swimmers and take advantage of some draft. Lost my goggles once, got a heel in the face that hurt like mad and pretty much got run over. Worth it as I set a PB in the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Train for swimming!
Transition 1
  • 08m 4s
Comments:

Could not get the wetsuit off. Had a stripper but next time I will go to a strong guy instead of a pretty woman!
What would you do differently?:

Pick a better stripper.
Bike
  • 6h 03m
  • 180.25 kms
  • 29.79 km/hr
Comments:

Did not have a great bike. Had to use my training wheels as my Zipps are cracked. Could not find my climbing legs. Course is longer than 180 k, more like 183 k.
What would you do differently?:

Train more on the hills. Need to get a carbon bike, aero helmet and race wheels.
Transition 2
  • 03m 44s
Comments:

Not bad. Wasted time trying to get a drink in transition.
Run
  • 3h 59m 2s
  • 42.16 kms
  • 05m 40s  min/km
Comments:

Had a good run. Could have pushed harder but tried to keep it at the edge of cramping.
What would you do differently?:

Not stop so much at aid stations.
Post race
Warm down:

Med tent to get massage and bandages.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training. Knee injury limited training time in the last three months.

Terrrific job!  The fact you made it through the marathon under 4 hours in that heat is amazing.
