Total Time = 1h 35m 33s
Overall Rank = 152/191
Age Group = Athena
Age Group Rank = 4/7
Pre-race routine:

I stayed at my mother's house which was less than 10 minutes from the race. I awoke at 4:35 AM chose the zoot tri shorts and zoot tri top over the one piece zoot race suit. I left the house at about 5:10 and arrived at eisenhower park early enough to get a spot in the closer lot. I ate a slim fast bar and had a diet coke on the way there.
Event warmup:

I just walked around and then got in the pool for a short warm up (too short)
Swim
  • 12m 11s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

It took me a little time to get going I tried to breathe every 3 strokes at first and I wasn't getting enough air and losing my form so it then took me a while to get back into the groove.
What would you do differently?:

warm up a little better and get into the groove sooner
Transition 1
  • 02m 9s
Comments:

I was happy with this transition.
Bike
  • 33m 29s
  • 9 miles
  • 16.13 mile/hr
Comments:

About 1/4 mile per 2.2 mile loop was on a narrow path that was extremely hard to pass on. There were not enough volunteers or officials on the bike course and there wasn't good enough instructions given to tell people to keep right except to pass, as a result people were all over the road making it especially hard to pass on the narrow part where I had to slow down.

I had my garmin and my max speed was about 18.9 mph with a steady 18 + on the straight aways but I had to slow to about 12-14 mph on the narrow parts. I recently added clip on aerobars to my road bike and raced with them for the first time here.

I was very happy to rank 56th on the bike!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I was happy with my bike and hope to get faster.
Transition 2
  • 02m 43s
Comments:

I cycled sock less but put them on for the run. I sat down and quickly removed my tri shoes slipped on thin zoot socks and purple nike lunarglide+ shoes. Slipped on my fuel belt and race belt and grabbed a bag of pomegranate luna moons
What would you do differently?:

get faster
Run
  • 45m
  • 3.11 miles
  • 14m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

I'm a terribly slow runner. At my current weight I can't go much faster. Once my HR hits 150 I feel pressure in my neck and ears so I know thats all I can do now. I'm pretty sure once I lose this weight I can get faster and get back closer to my running times of 30 years ago which was about a consistent 8 minute mile when I was at my best. I need to loose 65 more pounds and then maybe I can get to that pace.

I was only 40 seconds off third place in the Athena division. If I hadn't had the bit of trouble at the swim start or ran faster...
What would you do differently?:

Borrow some else's legs? ;-)
Post race
Warm down:

I had a banana and water, talked with my fan base -Mom, Cindy, Sue, Marissa, Diane and Mary. Marissa my niece who is 9 made a Go Lisa sign and I got her a cowbell that she had fun ringing. We had a group photo taken and Sally Edwards joined in the group.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My current body, next year I'll be faster.

Event comments:

Not enough volunteers on the course. Otherwise it was a nice fun race.

I'm ready to go long for next season.

It looks like you had a good race with no glitches.  Can't ask for more than that (except for forty-one seconds faster so that you could have gotten third place).   And next year we will all be thinner and faster and Watch Out World, Here We Come.  And how fun for you that you had a fan base, complete with cowbells!

Great race! Your biking is really good (except where you got slowed down. But 18.9 mph is really good!) Bummer about missing 3rd place by those 40 seconds. But that'll give you a goal for next year!

CONGRATULATIONS! Great job!

I had so much fun that day, I do hope they do it again next year with more volunteers, more sponsors and maybe a wider turnaround point on the bike! Oh, and fewer bees, LOL! Congrats!
