Total Time = 1h 22m 52s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 3/3
Pre-race routine:

The night before I took my calcium, magnesium and potassium supplements. I don't know if this really does anything, but, why not? Woke up early and took 2 endurolytes and a salt tab since I knoew it would be hot for the run. Ensure, coffee and an immodium, and I was off.
Event warmup:

Biked for 10 minutes and ran for about 5.
Swim
  • 13m 2s
  • 650 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

I had a great swim. This is my third OW swim, and the first two I just concentrated on getting through them. This race I decided to actually race it a bit. I thought about my strokes and really got into a good rythm. I would have liked to draft, but I wasn't around anybody going my speed.

The water was brown (like Louisiana water), but about halfway into my swim I realized that I hadn't even thought about the water quality. I was busy working my plan!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

I honestly don't know how people can do a sub-one minute transition. I put on helmet, glasses and shoes and ran to the mount line.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 44m 47s
  • 13 miles
  • 17.42 mile/hr
Comments:

While I am improving, the bike is by far my weakest leg. I just concentrated on staying at race pace--not too hard, not too easy. At last year's race there was only one woman in my AG so I thought going into this that I had a chance to place. At about 1 mile into the ride, two women in my AG flew past me. Hmmm. At about mile 6 another AGer passed me. Hmmm. The pack was pretty spread out due to a two wave start, but dang, I only passed a 12 YO girl and a guy riding a mountain bike.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. All you can do is race to your ability and those women in my AG were fast!
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

HOw can a T2 be slower than a T1?
What would you do differently?:

Put race belt on while running.
Run
  • 22m 42s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

I pushed it hoping I could catch somebody in my AG. Never did, but I passed quite a few out there. When it got tough, told myself to "Suck it up, Buttercup."

Thankfully a woman in my AG took overall winner so I came home with a really nice plaque.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

I always forget to warm down. Ate a slice of pizza, had a bit of hamburger and a beer chaser!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I honestly think I raced to my potential.

Event comments:

This was a very, very, very nice race. It was well organized, well officiated, and they had lots of post race food for the entire family. Top overall and AG winners received $$$ in addition to their hardware. I would highly encourage anyone reading this to put this on their must-do list if they can.

Schwag: T-shirt, plastic cup, hat made with 'coolon'fabric, and a canvas camp chair.

Excellent Times!! 2 min/100 yards and 7.5 min/mile is outstanding!!

All three events were strong.

Sounds like you are putting in a lot of biking miles, so this should help get the times down.

I need to do the same with my biking and running, if I want to get my times down.

Maybe I will do this one next year.

Keep training hard and I will see you at Sunrise #3.

I did this race last year...  My BIL and my sweet wife's sister live in Texarkana, and they did the race as part of a relay.  He's a triathlete, but his IT band started acting up a few weeks ago...  Anyhoo, he did the swim and she did the run, and they won the relay division.  1h 0min 55sec.
