Okay...first I am by no means great, okay...I suck, but last night at the pool I was swimming in an area that was 2 large lanes with the middle lane line removed. I was following one line, flailing man was following the other. This man swims all over. As a brand new swimmer, even I can see that this man has HORRIBLE form. This was a big area and with the laneline removed, there was PLENTY of room in the middle for a third swimmer. (When you share, and the lines are in...there actually could have been 4 swimmers). Third man joins asks me if he can swim. Sure thing. Swimming man never looks up. I tell the joiner, "He never stops, just jump in." Start swimming with all three in the water. EVERY time the Flailer runs into the third swimmer, like aims for him and HITS him. The poor man had to practically run to the side to get away from him. First time, I smile, second...outright stop and laugh...by the third I am thinking the guy is either blind or a jerk. Lane clears third swimmer moves over and flailing man proceeds to take up both lanes and crowd me.  WTH? Weird.

Thats almost as bad as the aqua jogger that only ran on the line, wouldnt move to the side when I was swimming by him.  That made me mad, share the lane.

good one..........try this on for size. I am in Germany and the German people have no concept of lane or lap swimming at all!!!
I braved it all and decided to go swimming at the ESWE Bade on Mainzer Strasse. I know only a little German, so I knew this was going to be a treat. I got to the pool, went up to the register and paid my 4.80 E to get in. I knew Germany was pretty co-ed in al they do, but it is one thing to read about it, its another to experience it. Took me a bit to figure out to use the changing rooms, but I got it. I went into the pool area and it was full of people. The pool is a 50 meter pool, and I wanted to swim 2000 meters. I got into the water and started to swim and it was like driving on the autobahn, but without the passing lane. People would swim almost right into you before you had to move. Is there any type of etiquette for something like this? Usually in the USA the slower people swimming have their own lanes marked and the faster ones have their marked, not so here. I must have ran into and got hit by 25 people. I got done swimming and decided to go into the sauna, I was expecting the worse...everyone naked, laying around, but that was not the case, all had their suits on. I never went into the sauna after a swim, most American pools do not have this. It was very relaxing just sitting there sweating like a pig. (funny exp?ression...pigs dont sweat). I stayed there for about 20 minutes and then went to the locker room. Made my way into the changing room and got changed. It is very unique to see both men and women in the same locker room. Usually I would hit the shower, walk to my locker and change right there. In Germany, after you hit the shower, you grab your stuff and head to a changing room all dripping wet. After I changed I went to get a bottle of water from the machine, read the one that said table water, bought it, and was tricked because it is the carbonated one, I wanted the non-carbonated one. They did not have any other kind. So my lesson learned here was to bring my own. I did think it was funny that the females had their own shower area right by the exit of the pool, but they stand there with the door open.

Laffenguy,  I swam at ESWE all the time back in 97-2000!  It was a free-for-all, no lane lines, and there was only one German man that actually was a swimmer... in my head I named him "Schnellman!"  The Germans had the absolute widest breaststroke I've ever seen, I think they reached about 10 feet across, ha!  I would never swim backstroke, that would be taking your life in your hands!
