Overall Rank = 156/207
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 13/15
Pre-race routine:

Woke up and got remaing gear into car, drove the 15 min to the race site and sat in traffic waiting for park to open
Event warmup:

light jog
Swim
  • 19m 45s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 14s / 100 yards
Comments:

The race start was delayed several times. My routine of eating a gel 5-10 min prior to the start was shot when they delayed the start due to first the buoy floating away and then for the last of the HIM swimmers to come in. Due to the weather and the rescue boats there was a good deal of chop that I was not ready for.
What would you do differently?:

Get more practice in the rought water environment.
Transition 1
  • 04m 16s
Comments:

The swim kicked my butt, it was raining and cold, I will fully admit I had decided to do this race to complete due to the weather. I took my sweet time getting myself all properly situated and ready for a long wet bike ride. We also had to place all of our non bike T1 items into a bag to be taken to the finish area as the park required the Transition be cleared out after the last swimmer left the water.
What would you do differently?:

Hard to say the suit came off perfictly if the weather was better I think I would have had more motovation to go faster.
Bike
  • 1h 26m 34s
  • 17.6 miles
  • 12.20 mile/hr
Comments:

It was a very wet course with lots of hills I took it slow and steady to be safe due the rain. I hit a few slick spots but maintained my balance and didn't go down. I regret that I did have to walk a few times but I was not alone. The bike course for the sprint changed from when I regestered, it got 3 miles longer and a lot more hills.
What would you do differently?:

Climb more hills
Transition 2
  • 02m 23s
Comments:

Everything was wet soaking wet feet don't go into the running shoes that well, I had to sit down to get them on.
What would you do differently?:

Not much can be done when the weather gets involved
Run
  • 38m 59s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 12m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

This run wasn't my best not much more to say, I walked more than I wanted to.
What would you do differently?:

Need more running training.
Post race
Event comments:

There was plenty of voulnteers and overall the race was pretty good. The events being delayed, to me was beyond the control of the organizers.

Alan, you got the job done on a rough, nasty day.  There were many that didn't even start.  This would have been a tough course even with good weather.

Thanks, LB. I see you finished the HIM Congrats. I think given the weather this was a huge challenge to all those that stood up and stuck with it to the finish.
