Total Time = 2h 35m 31s
Overall Rank = 7/
Age Group = Clyde over 40
Age Group Rank = 1/
Pre-race routine:

Got up earlier than normal and ate (never did that before but wanted some nurishment due to the longer event) and hydrated.
Event warmup:

Ran easy for 6 minutes and stretched.
Run
  • 24m 34s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

I held back on this run and it was kind of easy.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

I screwed up the straps on the shoes and had to re-feed 3 of them while trying to ride up hill.
What would you do differently?:

Not try a new shoe strap idea.
Bike
  • 1h 10m 22s
  • 25.3 miles
  • 21.57 mile/hr
Comments:

I went easier than normal due to the extra length of the bike and final run.

I had a flat tire toward the end. About 2 miles out I took a left corner and the rear tire slid. I looked down and saw it was going flat. Luckily it leaked slowly. I was almost completely flat near the end, but I was on a steep 10mph climb, so did not loose too much time (other than the resistance of a flat tire). My final right turn and ride to T2 was slow as I limped in.
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

Did this one well.
Run
  • 58m 38s
  • 6.55 miles
  • 08m 57s  min/mile
Comments:

A lot of cramps with every single step. Multiple times I stopped to walk, stretch, and massage out the cramps.

I took water at all opportunities and felt well hydrated.
Post race
Warm down:

Stetched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training and cramping problem that I need to finally address.

Event comments:

My goal was between 2:30 adn 2:35. Just missed it due mostly to the cramping, also the T1 and flat tire slowed me.

Considering you rode a flat for 2 miles and other issues you did excellent.

Time to plan your next race.

You did well for what the day threw at you. Sorry we keep missing each other, I didn't know you were racing last weekend.

Thanks Brue.  Between that and my T1 debacle I lost some time but I suppose I got some resting in too, so...

David, yes one day we will meet.  I had not chimed in with anyone on Deer Creek since all the discussion was about the HIM Tri.  I do keep my eyes out for you folks.

Wow, great bike time, especially with the wind and a flat tire. Very nice race!
