Pre-race routine:

Ate a bagel and banana. Drove to the event. Being my first tri ever I left really early (1 hr drive) and got there with a lot of extra time. The weather was crummy, it was overcast all day.
Event warmup:

A few laps in the diving well and then hurried into my lane because I didn't realize it was already my wave!
Swim

  • 500 yards
  • 01m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

Great swim time. I estimated an 8:30 500yd because that was around what I had been doing my I've been swimming a lot so I guess I kicked it up a gear and had a decent swim.
What would you do differently?:

Obviously more swim training, but given this was my first triathlon, I thought this was awesome.

T1 is added to Bike time
Bike
  • 46m 49s
  • 13.7 miles
  • 17.56 mile/hr
Comments:

My calves cramped before I even hit mile 2. I knew I was going out too hard. I also kept sucking down my gatorade and upset my stomach. I had to slow it down to keep my calves from tightening up. I probably went a bit too hard in the swim and didn't settle down for the bike enough. The sky opened up and didn't stop raining until after my run, it was cold and uncomfortable.
What would you do differently?:

Pace myself better and not drink so much on the bike.
Transition 2

Comments:

T2 is added into run time
Run
  • 28m 37s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

The effects of a hard swim and harder bike drained me down and I got passed a lot on the run. It was hard to keep running, my legs were really tired.
What would you do differently?:

more bricks!
Post race
Warm down:

ate some food and drank water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

only 2 months of training.

Event comments:

Great place to experience my first triathlon. Even with the rainy/cold weather it was a blast and I'm definitely hooked!
