Overall Rank = 220/295

Age Group Rank = 4/12
Pre-race routine:

Drove from home (1:30 min). Just a light breakfast of yogurt, bread, 50/50 gatorade and water. Got there pretty early, but the place was already packed.
Event warmup:

Nothing special. Stretched, walked around.
Swim
  • 29m 45s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

Sunny day and lots of glare made it hard to sight the buoys. Some chop... more than previous tris... guess from boats? I felt generally slow, but eventually got into a decent rhythm. Alternated in some backstroke and did breastoke around the corner buoys. Came in top half, so a little off my sprint results, but still happy with my first mile swim in open water. I was a little intimidated by the course. Spent too much time pre-race looking out at the water. Definitely can cut a couple of minutes off next year.
What would you do differently?:

A little less backstroke.
Transition 1
  • 00m
What would you do differently?:

Remember to put on my helmet. Stupid mistake that DQd me. Put helmet on bike not on ground.
Bike
  • 1h 18m 20s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.03 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt great throughout. Best bike ride ever. Training paid off. Also kudos to my biking buddy Liz who had similar pace. I'd catch her when she drank, she caught me on the hills.
What would you do differently?:

Other than wear a helmet, nothing. Great ride.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 1h 07m
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Back seized up. Never really could get going... lots of pain. 1st mile was on pace and then other than a little stretch around mile 4, it was just hanging on. Had plenty of gas, just too much pain. I could probably take 7-10 minutes off the run next year if I could figure out how to avoid the back pain. Liz caught up with me at the end... and her encouragement was the only reason I was able to come in under 3 hours. Thanks Liz... I owe you one!
What would you do differently?:

Advil before race? More running training. I'm just a horrid runner.
Post race
Warm down:

Flat on back for 10 minutes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Back problems.
