Overall Rank = 143/596
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 15/52
Pre-race routine:

was up at 5AM. Ate Cherrios with milk for breakfast. got to the event site at about 6AM. At first I set my Transition in the wrong place, luckily I realized my mistake and was able to move to my spot without incident.
Event warmup:

A swim warm-up was NOT allowed for this race. I found this shocking, I did do a run warm-up but transition closed at 7:15AM and of-course they started the race a few minutes late so by the time my wave started it was 8:20. So basicly I stood around cooling down for over an hour between my warm-up and the race start.
Swim
  • 10m 7s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 01s / 100 meters
Comments:

They didn't allow a swim warm-up. This really suprized me. In five year of competing in triathlons I have never heard of this stupid rule. This combined with the chilly temps effected my breathing more than I thought it would. Basicly for the first 100m or so my body went rigid and I couldn't breathe correctly. by the time I got used to the water and my body relaxed, it was already too late and I struggled breathing the rest of the swim.
What would you do differently?:

I debated whether or not to wear my wetsuit. I decided against it because the water wasnt really THAT cold and I didn't think they would have strippers for this event. It turns out they DID have strippers and the water effected me more than I thought it would. I still belive that had they allowed a swim warm-up I would have competed much better.
Transition 1
  • 02m 19s
Comments:

An average T1 for me.
Bike
  • 44m 27s
  • 15 miles
  • 20.25 mile/hr
Comments:

I did suprisingly well considering I didn't train one iota the preseeding 6 weeks.
What would you do differently?:

I was a fool and never trained once on the bike leading up to this event. inspite of that I competed well as opposed to my age groupers. I wonder how well i might have done had I trained properly. The difference between my 8th place finish (20.3 ave MPH) and the 4th place finisher (20.7 ave MPH) could have easilly been overcome.
Transition 2
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

An avagage T2 for me.
Run
  • 24m 54s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

I ran better today than any race I ran this year. I really tried my best to work on my run pace leading up to this race. I see that this pais off. I am still way to slow a runner but this gives me hope that I can be more compeditive in the future.
What would you do differently?:

not much this was a good event for me.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:
