Total Time = 1h 13m 17s
Overall Rank = 83/560
Age Group = 35-40
Age Group Rank = 15/42
Pre-race routine:

wake at 5:30 and eat peanut butter toast. Drive the 3 minutes to the course (too dark to ride). get to transition at 6:15...already a long line. took time setting up transition. walked the swim in, bike out and in and run out.
Event warmup:

none...LONG chip line. stretched a bit and then it was time to go.
Swim
  • 05m 46s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

went out WAY TOO FAST in my first 50. Passed several people in the first 100 then BOMBED! had to do breast stroke most of last 50 meters! DEAD TIRED!
What would you do differently?:

better pacing
Transition 1
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

due to the temp, I decided to wear a long sleeved bike jersey. I know it would be hard to get on so I had an extra towel to dry arms. I'm sure I wasted 20 sec or so on that but I'm glad I did it. Chest was warm during the ride. I had a skull cap and long gloves but elected to leave those behind.
What would you do differently?:

nothing really...can't do much about the temp...gotta roll with it.
Bike
  • 39m 33s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.20 mile/hr
Comments:

thought I would do better on this course...and I felt pretty good too. But I guess I was just too gassed from my sprint swim. Really didn't get a good groove until the second lap.
What would you do differently?:

get in more riding before the race. I only rode one time in the 4 weeks prior to this race due to rain and increased demands at work. It shows!
Transition 2
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

turned down the wrong row!!! turns out the marker at the end of that row was the SAME as the one that someone put at the end of our row (one more down). Lost some time here trying to figure out WTF! Once I got in the right spot though I was out of there quick. put on hat, garmin and race belt once I was out on course.
What would you do differently?:

pay attention to the rows dummy!!
Run
  • 24m 49s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

MUCH better than my run in Denton 6 weeks ago! shaved off nearly 4 minutes! Pace under 8 minutes...really good for me. It shows that I worked on upping my pace!
What would you do differently?:

nothing really
Post race
Warm down:

got back into transition fast and got my running pants, wind jacket and hat. Cold front was blowing in and it got cold!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

blowing up on my swim. Should have paced better and made it up on the bike

Event comments:

Well organized and lots of fun. Despite long transition and chip lines, they got us going within about 10 minutes of stated starting time. I'll do it again next year for sure...
