Wife doing the half with a friend and I am doing the full. Last year sucked for me. The weather was horrible. I have to end this marathon on a better note. Windy rainy and cold last year. Definitely flat though, looking forward to breaking last years time and a PR. Good work up for my Iron in Cozy end of the year.

Brian and I will do a pre-race dinner...my "old world" family came from Palermo...so...heritage!

Ran on the course today...I hope the weather's as nice on race day as it was today!  GORGEOUS out there today, especially south of Gandy past Ballast Point and down near MacDill.  Breezy, but nice and sunny..."happy" weather.

Renee -- do you know, if you signed up on line, can you still do packet pickup at Sports Authority?  Would love to get that over with...

Darn just answered my own question.  From the website:
http://www.tampabayrun.com/Registration/In-Store_Registration_at_Sports_Authority.htm

REMEMBER, you must register in person at Sports Authority during In-Store Registration hours to receive your T-Shirt and packet prior to Race Weekend.  If you register by mail or online, your T-Shirt and packets WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE for pick-up until the 8 On Your Side Health & Fitness Expo being held at the Tampa Convention Center -East Hall on Friday, February 26th, 10am - 8pm and on Saturday, February 27th, 6am - 5pm.  Expo will close at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 27th, but Gasparilla Marathon & Half Marathon Late Registration and Packet Pick-up will continue until 5:00 p.m. in Meeting Room #24 of the Tampa Convention Center.  MR #24 is located on the Lower Level and just inside the Franklin Street Entrance.

If I had know that, I wouldn't have signed up on line.  Kind of annoyed now.  Oh well.

I heard the half and full mary tech race shirt colors were green and blue. Anyone know which color is for the half? Green does not amuse me. Not that I ever wear my race shirts ... I saw the 5/10/15k shirt - white with graphics (u-g-l-y).

Ok, so shall we start a progressive dinner list? Add yourself if you plan on attending. I'll talk to the people at Pizzaoila Bavaro about accommodations and post an update.

Jeff, you and the chef could pass for brothers.

I REGISTERED!!! First real race for me since I trashed my hamstring in late 06. THRILLED!!!!!!!!!!!

The half shirt is a lime green color. I would NEVER buy a tech shirt this color, not a fan, but somehow it manages to look kinda neat-o.

Ha!  Awesome!

Maybe he'll be extra nice since he's a "brother" from Palermo!

Renee - how did you register and have (or at least seen) the t-shirt?
I am planning on registering at Sports Auth in late Feb so I can get everything avoid being annoyed like dinabean above.

I registered at Sports Authority yesterday; they give you your shirt and swag bag when you register in-store. They will be there again next weekend (Sat & Sun). After that, it's online or mail-in registrations only. I still have to pickup my race bib # at the race expo the weekend of the race, but I got the shirt/swag bag yesterday.

I saw someone running in the race shirt this morning while I was out on Bayshore.  It's pretty interesting.  I don't think it's completely obnoxious, but probably not something you'd just wear like you'd wear another less ostentatious race shirt.

Today my long slow run felt just like the marathon day...STUPID heavy wind from the north just blasting you as you run up Bayshore.  I really really hope race day isn't as bad...but alas, the last four years it's been the same story.

Oh and before I forget, Renee...can you add Pete (klondike) to the pre-race dinner list?  I think Jim (timebaron) may come too but I will confirm with him before I let you know to add him as well.  Pete's definitely in though.

Only 28 days to go!!  Four weeks from today!

Alas I have ER call this year race weekend and right now I am not overly motivated to change given my crappolla running shape I am in.  I was mommentarily motivated to switch trying to go to the parade yesterday but now...not so much.

As a newbie to this race, it is true that Pirates present you with your finishers medals (I am doing the Half)?  I thought Pirates typically take instead of give, so do we need to fight them to get our medals?  Also, does this unique presentation occur for all the races including the 5K?

I don't remember who gave me my medal when I did the full mary in 2006. I just remember that I was allowed to stop moving.

I heard that they expect over 22,000 people for all the races; they hit 20,000 last year for the first time. No word on the half/full numbers yet.

Two years ago the medals were handed to finishers and then you could have a photo taken with either male or female priate.

Hey Everyone,

I am running the 15k and I also work at Pizzialo Bavaro. I know a lot of people are going to carb load on the 26th in preparation for the races the following day, so I convinced my boss to give a discount to runners in the race. So if you are looking for some amazing pastas and/or pizza for the night before, come on in. Runners who bring proof of registration will be given a 10% discount. The website is pizzaiolobavaro.com if you want to check out the menu before you come in. My name is Ashley and I will be working that night then racing the next morning. Hope to see you all!

Hi, Ashley. What a coincidence - Pizzaiolo Bavaro is exactly the place I was talking about for a pre-race dinner on Saturday night before the half/full marathon. I've met the chef and I love the food there.

Looks like we have 7 people who will be going to dinner. Can you join us that night and make it 8? Also, since you work there, would you go ahead and reserve a spot for our group?

If anyone interested will just post something on here, it will give me a better idea of what to expect. And we will take reservations for parties of 5 or more.

Hey Renee,
I will definitely reserve a table for you. Just let me know the night and the time. I know the 5 and 15k are Sat and the half and full marathon are on Sunday so I am not sure which night you plan on coming in.
Thanks,
Ashley

And thank you for the offer to join as well, but more than likely, I will be serving you. haha

We are doing Saturday night; some people are coming from out of town and won't arrive until Friday night.

How about 7pm on Saturday? If you read through this thread, you'll see the discussion regarding pre-race dinner.

I will put you in for a party of 7 at 7pm on the 27th. I have actually taken this night off as a treat to myself as my race is that morning, but if I see a large number of people interested in coming in, more than likely I will end up working haha.

I damaged my hamstring, same one that I badly damaged in '06. Today has been the best it's felt in a week; I am hoping this is the beginning of a trend towards feeling 'normal' again. I'm sure I will burst in tears if the race begins next Sunday without me. Either way, I'll be at the race start; Ernie is my guest for the weekend and will be running the half (and probably the 5k the day before).

Send good juju/mojo/thoughts my way, will ya?

GOOOOOD JUJU!!!! (no sacrifice fire king)

Hope you feel better soon Renee.  Maybe a good swim this week (please weather, get better...supposed to be in the 70's mid week!) will help!  You should see how much I've been swimming this month...thanks to you.

I have a load of people for the dinner...I hope it's not too late to get it arranged...if it's too much lemme know and we'll make other arrangements, I don't wanna overload the restaurant.

It'll be...
Me
Brian
Jim (timebaron) + 2
Pete (klondike) + 1

So that's 7 of us just from my party.
We'll talk this week I'm sure.  I haven't heard from Nicole yet.  I think I'm gonna stop down there today some time.

So what time were you thinking of coming in the restaurant? The other party is in at 7 and I have another 2 people from the race who have made a reservation at 7 as well.
