Expert 1145 Ann Arbor, MI | Subject: RE: Martian Marathon AeroBaldness - 2010-04-07 2:02 PM TrishM - 2010-04-07 12:42 PM I was told to make sure I had one by a friend that ran the full last year...she said it was boring! Oh boy! You could always call a Running Fit to double check, but I'm sure it's fine. I am a bit of an iPod snob and don't wear it for most races (only training), but did the full last year and was glad I had one. Your info above is dead on. I was bored and lonely once I got past the 1/2 turn around. The only Running Fit event I can see that has an iPod ban is the T-Rex Tri Series. Heh, when Alaina and I went last year to 'strap at Martian, I remember seeing about 6 other people within that mile stretch who were saving all their energy for the one person they knew to come by. It would've been dead quiet out there if we hadn't brought those pesky cowbells and obnoxious voices I might check w/ RF, but it sounds like it's probably ok to have an ipod. |

Master 2167 Livonia, MI | Subject: RE: Martian Marathon I ran the Martian with an ipod in 2008, can't imagine the rules have changed. I've never done an organized run from 5K to full mary in Michigan with an ipod ban. Almost all the tris, but none of the runs. |

I'm running with my bottle but it's only 20 oz.....do you know if the stations will be able to do a quick fill of gatorade for me as I run by? I know sometimes they only have the big containers with the little spouts so the volunteers can really only do the paper cups. I'm starting to get focused on the little details as the nerves start to pop up |

This is my first time volunteering - though I ran the 1/2 last year - and we won't get any real instruction until 6:30am on race day. Can you not just drink out of the cups rather than carry a bottle? I have a feeling I would absolutely hate carrying anything for that long. Or maybe just drink out of cups after your bottle's empty? I probably wouldn't end up drinking much more than 20 oz anyway during a 1/2, especially since the morning will be cold so you shouldn't dehydrate as quickly. I promise to do really efficient hand offs! And tequila - check Megaphone - check Smiling face - check |

Extreme Veteran 594 Grosse Pointe Woods | Subject: RE: Martian Marathon In my unending pursuit to over think everything, I came up with something for tomorrow while talking to a co-worker of mine that is planning on going about 1:30 for the 1/2. If I did the math right, he'll end up right in the middle of the 10K pack as he exits Heins Dr and come up on to the path and the wobbly bridge. Depending on the 10K field size, this could quite a few people to dodge. I'll likely find the back of the 10K crowd too. My 1/2 marathon PR was The Martian a few years ago @ 1:49. No real chance of beating this tomorrow as I have not tapered and really am just treating it as a training run in the HIM training plan. I am hoping for a healthy 1:55 or so, so I can resume training without to many aches, getting back in the pool on Monday. Since this is the 1st time (at least that I know of) that all 4 races are on the same day, I thought I toss out the 10K crowd ending up in the 1/2 marathon mix. |

I will probably be leading the 10k (on bike, not foot). Your friend is probably right. At mile 10k or there abouts is where you all intersect again. Those who will be at 1:15 at mile 10 might get bowled over by my lack of grace on the bike. I expect the 1st 10k'ers to be finishing in about 27 minutes or so. (so sad that that is faster than my 5k PR). I am riding to course tonight. I'll let you know what kind of craziness to expect. Edited by jogo 2010-04-09 3:09 PM |

Some crowding will probably happen between miles 11-13 of the HM for those going <1:30 coming up on the >10m/m 10k runners. If it happens, the half marathoners will go around. All part of racing. |

Expert 1170 Berkley, MI | Subject: RE: Martian Marathon Great job everyone on their races! Special great jobs to those who did their first races, first Half or first Marathon!
I saw Kristen just after thre turn around, and saw MIKEWOODS!!! Before and after the race.
I got to the race site with just enough time to get to the start line and start running, so I started at the back of the 5k/10k pack... sorry that I missed seeing everyone else, and sorry that I missed running with Miss Kristen to her first 10k finish!
Kristen, you were looking really strong there on Hines!
GREAT JOB!! |
