This year's MM was my first ever official race - I did the 1/2, running with Kimm and I had a blast.  It was a bit chilly, but once we got running it was fine.  I'll definitely be doing this one again.

I am thinking about doing this as my first full but I am not sure yet. Our newest arrival is due March 2nd so I am not sure about the timing.

WOW, what a huge, huge shot in the arm for Running Fit to get this Boston Certified.  I cannot imagine the growth they'll see just based on this alone (and hope that they consider corrals based on projected times, versus a mass start like they have done in the past).

The Martian was the scene of my 1st marathon last year and the scence of my 1/2 marathon PR the year before.  Right now, I am going back and forth between doing the 1/2 or volunteering next year depending where I am at training-wise.  The 1/2 course is fast and there are a few more little hilly parts on the 2nd 1/2 of the full course.  I was crusing along in the full until about mile 17 when I ran in to some killed cramps in my right thigh that made for a miserable last 9 miles.

For those with kids, get them doing the kids marathon!!!  If they keep a running log over the winter and do 25 miles, they can turn in the log for a martian doll at any Running Fit location AND all finishers get the same medal as the full marathon runners when they finish the kids race.

STUPID WORK FILTER!!!

So, I can't view the website, but it seems that this isn't the first year the MM was a Boston Qualifier.

In any case, the route is boring as hell, but the volunteers rock, as do most of the participants.  Specially those that do the full in full-length evening gowns.

Since 2002, but it hasn't always been in Dearborn.  I don't recall it ever being a BQ event, but, to behonest, I was thinking only about Dearborn too.  Their hook, among others, is by far the most out there shirt you'll ever receive from an event!

I did the half marathon last year.  It was my second.  I thought they did a pretty good job of making a so-so course interesting by adding aliens and what not.  I don't love the out and back part and it was pretty cold at the start last year but I had a good time.  I got to run with Trixie for the first couple of miles, then she started running...

I have to really start looking at next year's schedule.  It's gonna take me forever to get a race list approved by the boss.  After doing my first full in Detroit, I'm anxious to sign up for another one, maybe this will be it...

Just for the record, I was not the one in the evening gown

Really helpful site- has a lot of reviews on races across the country- not just Martian- AND you can find out how 'new' the race is, if you haven't heard of it.

It's been a Boston Qualifier for a while, but I don't know how long. It doesn't make a lot of sense to organize a marathon and NOT have it certified for Boston...

I wasn't either. This time.

Oh, and the martian is part of the plan this year. Assuming the half.

I am in for the half for sure.  I am sort of playing around with going for the full.. but it would be a boring 26.2....  so the half has top billing for me right now.

So, I have to do a mary for my mental prep for next fall and am looking HARD at this one.  Is this considered a fast course?  Why is it so boring?  Because many of us run parts of it already?  How hilly IS the second half?  Hmmm, I think that's enough annoying questions for now.

Coop and Rick...would either of you fine gents be in drag in 2010?????  Laughing  You've both got the gams for gowns!

First...not a tremendously fast course, it's sneaky hilly. Boring? It's because hines drive is four lanes of very, very well paved pavement with parks on both sides. Forever. Some folks find it boring, others find it smoov. Just a choice, I wouldn't call it a destination marathon (it's not Marine Corps, Big Sur, NY, Boston) but it's still solid.  You should drive Hines Drive prior-to to get a flava for it.

And....Drag does not affect the time. Trixie ran it with a martian strapped to her back (check my albums). I ran at least 3 more miles (see the hill climb pics in the same album) and still beat the marathon leader person. If i need to sport the couture, not an issue. Just need to find the appropriate outfit. You know how hard it can be to find THAT outfit.

mostly, I find it boring because I ride it so often.  It's a basic out and back run with the first portion through neighborhoods.  You won't find it boring if you don't visit it often, tho.

I think you should do it.  There will be tons of BT support out there.

I'm tossing around the idea of this being my first full.  I did the half last year, I thought it was a good course.

My only beef is the timing thing.  Maybe I'm missing something, but a buddy from work ran this too.  1 time put him 30ish seconds ahead of me and the other time put me upwards of a minute ahead of him... guess which time the event (and my buddy) used?  The one that didn't favor me beating my coworker.

Still a fun run.

Karen and I may be doing this or the Glass City in Toledo on Sunday April 25.  Our entire early season has been put on hold until we get our daughters volleyball tournament schedule, which has all ready derailed our plans on starting our tri season at Racing 4 Recovery due to the state vollyeball tourney the first weekend in June.

I kinda of wish that they had the half and full on Sunday April 11th like they did in the past with the shorter distances on Saturday, but with Vball tourneys running on Saturdays we may be busy that weekend

I think you should hold off for 2 weeks and run the trail 1/2 marathon in Pinckney.  Now that's fun!  And the price is right.  Trailmarathon.com is the website.
