Total Time = 1h 05m 4s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 9/41
Pre-race routine:

Toast with honey and a sports drink 2 hours before event
Event warmup:

none
Swim
  • 08m 43s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 11s / 100 meters
Comments:

I somehow managed to get myself in the middle of the pack the entire swim with people controlling my speed and ability. I cannot tell you how many times I got hit and could not find any rhythm. Not a very pleasant swim - at one time I actually stopped and told the people next to me to "F__K OFF!"
What would you do differently?:

Swim on the outside and on my own.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Had some problem getting my shoes on whilst riding... I think it was about 500m before I actually clipped them in properly.
What would you do differently?:

practise!
Bike
  • 35m 7s
  • 19 kms
  • 32.46 km/hr
Comments:

I didnt go hard enough on the ride - I was too concerned with the hills and not having enough energy for the run. I coasted on the downhill parts instead of pedalling.
What would you do differently?:

I need to more aggressive on the bike - I am a solid rider but I dont demonstrate it on the course - I need to push myself more if I want a top 5 finish.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Didnt get my feet out of my shoes in time as the dismount area came up real quick after a turn. I wasnt perpared so I basically stopped and nearly fell over with my shoe clipped in. How embarrassing :)
What would you do differently?:

Give moreself more time to get my feet out of the shoes before dismount
Run
  • 21m 14s
  • 4.7 kms
  • 04m 31s  min/km
Comments:

I felt good until the first hill - I got a stitch and it took me a little bit of time to get rid of it - found my pace half way through the race. Had enough energy to sprint the finish - actually I had enough energy to sprint the last 1km but I didnt use it - dont ask me why.

What would you do differently?:

Again, I need to push myself harder - I seem to enjoy coasting but not working at LT.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

myself and my ability to race within my upper limits

Sorry you didn't have such a good race and what bad luck on the swim, I was laughing at the bit where you stopped and told people where to get off - you must have been so frustrated. Sounds like you learnt a lot though - all character building I guess ;-)
