Hi All ,

Anyone else a member? I am joining in January as soon as the initiation fee is waived. Great place but seemed pretty crowded. looking to see how crowded the pool is on weeknights. Hope to swim after 8:30PM a few nights a week.

Thanks,

Greg

Pretty good place, i was a member before i moved to DC. Still swim when i go back home. That late you shouldn't have a problem. I used to do the masters swim program which was great and met there, if i recall correctly, tuesday and thursday nights. Then they'd meet in catonsville M&W. They just got a new timing system which is always fun.

I used to be a member when I was back in college.  This is before they did the renovation.  Place looks nice now but I'm a member of Lifetime Fitness in Columbia.  The swim hours at the YMCA are good but just make sure your not there during swim practice time.

When you join you become a member of The Y of Central Maryland.  So you can use any of 10 (I think) facilities.  The pool at the Howard County Y tends to get crowded as does the fitness center.  I swim at the Catonsville Y, usually in the evenings.  After 8:00 pm on Tuesday and Thursday nights is nice.  More often than not I have my own lane.  After 9:00 pm on Fridays is another great time as all 6 lanes are for lap swimming only.  During the weekdays between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm swimming is great.  I was one of two people in the pool today at 10:30 am.  With the initiation fee waived and the reasonable monthly fee, membership is a good deal.

Not a member in Elicott City, but I do use a Y closer in to DC and may be moving out to Elicott City in March/Feb. So keep me posted on how it goes for you.

I'm doing a 3 mile open water swim in May and the Bay Bridge in June if I get a lottery slot - I'll need a pool for that!!

I swim there on and off through the year. Nice facility that just went through a massive overhaul.

FYI the Masters team has the pool from 8:45 to 9:45 twice a week (t/th I think) for team practice. No lap lanes open at that time.

I trained for the bay swim there last winter and often had difficulty getting a lane in the morning, unless I got there right when it opened. Weekend afternoons, don't even try it.

They had a decent spin class on weekday mornings last winter, I jumped in on a few of them.

Thanks all. I cancelled Planet Fitness and joined the Y on 01/02/2010! Much better place and cleaner too. I can't wait for all the new years resolutions to die down so the gym and pool wont be so crowded
