I use RockTape on my calf because I tore the muscle and I find the tape helps with the pain by giving the area a little extra stabilization. Right now I only use it in races because I'm almost healed back up but for a while I was using it all the time.

I used it on my knee before my last olympic. The lady shaved my knee where necessary and it stayed on through the s,b,r and for 2 days thereafter. I found it helped and sometimes we need something to help us while we go through PT to get the joint fixed properly.

I've used it for some knee problems and I think it really worked. For somethings, I think it is a)hard to tape yourself and b)not as beneficial.

I live in STL and really struggled with getting it to stick this summer, I'm assuming because of the humidity because I've used it before and didn't have a problem.

cornchexs - 2009-12-17 3:32 PM I'm interested in using this for my knee but have doubts.  I traded emails with the Spidertech folks and they said that, if applied at least one hour before entering the water, it would last and that it was water resistant.  After swimming, it should be patted dry or allowed to air dry.

If I'm in a race, I don't know that it will ever dry due to sweat.  Does anyone have experience with the full knee application?  Also, does it really have to be applied by a trained professional?

Thanks.

I have used and found it helpful HOWEVER, it does not stay on in the water. It came off during my HIM distance last fall and came off when I went for a warm up swim at a sprint a couple of weeks ago.

I've been using it all season with excellent results. I've used KT tape and spidertech. Spidertech is nice because it's pre cut and pretty straight forward. The KT tape is nice because you cab get it for cheap on eBay. I've done 2 HIM, one Olympic and a sprint while taped. It usually last 2-3 days depending on how much swimming I'm doing. If it start to come off the best thing to do is trim he lose end off.

I'm a skeptic.  I don't really believe that putting a piece of tape on your skin should have any effect whatsoever- but it was cheap and I was desperate.

I've used it for two issues.

My Achilles (tendonosis or tendonitis).  they get sore from overuse- and have all my life.  I've taped them up many times, and when their both sore- sometimes I'll do a test and tape one and not the other.  I'm not sure that I've noticed much, if any improvement.

Shin Splints.  I generally never have had shin splint problems, but my left shin started hurting me on long runs just prior to my January marathon, I taped it up.  it worked terrific.  No shin pain on the left leg that had been bothering me.  Interesting, my right shin, which didn't get taped, was hurting (but ultimately loosened up and didn't hurt my marathon).  So, in this use, I'd say it really worked.

The KT Tape is good.  Check out RockTape.  It's in some ways, an even better product.  Stretchier and has great motivational sayings on the back.

I used KT tape for my IT band last year. I trained for a 13.1 trail run, and my ITBS got real bad just prior to the race. No matter what, I couldn't run more than a half mile without my ITBS starting to kick in. With KT tape, I was able to get to mile 9 before the ITBS forced me to go into power-walk mode. So yes it does work!

I use it for ankle and arch support for an injured ankle and tendons, pre-op. It works well, even in water and sweat - but your skin has to be dry and non-greasy when you put it on. I use it with these skin-prep towelettes that are alcohol based and have a slightly sticky residue.

There are many videos on the web to help with application strategies. Play around with the amount of tension you need for support in a given area, and start light. Be careful when putting it over joints - I'd not do that unless you know you need it. (My ankle needs it, it's shot, but I wouldn't put tape across my kneecap!).

It will stay on for a few days, depending on how much you sweat or shower. I wear a sock over it in a shoe because external friction (clothes, shoes) seems to take it off quick. It sticks best to skin, not as well to itself.

In my opinion, it works, but you have to have a specific reason and strategy for using it - just randomly taping it around a body part that hurts is not a good idea. On my ankle I use it to assist muscles and ligaments that aren't working correctly, and to support a joint that is messed up. It won't cure it - it just helps me do day to day things and bike until it gets fixed. Can't run on it at all - it's not a miracle cure

I use it all the time to support my post tib tendon when I'm running. It works really well but bottom line it is just tape. Athletic tape works to it just isn't as flexible so it is harder to work with and athletic tape doesn't stick as well.

It seems to work for shin splints, but it also seems to randomly choose when it wants to stay and when it doesn't. I applied some yesterday and it's still perfectly in place today (post biking and showering.) I did it in a 10k race once, and I had tape flapping everywhere by mile 3.

I have a pair of CW-X Pro Conditioning Tights and they have "Conditioning Web Technology" which is a similar idea to KT Tape and has worked well in recovery for me so far.
