Anybody use this stuff?  I saw a bunch of runners using it at the LV R&R marathon.  On the calves, achilles tendon, hamstrings and around knee caps...

I haven't used it yet, but have been suffering with an achilles injury and was thinking about it.
I met someone today at a half marathon who was wearing it for achilles support and she said it really does work.
I am planning on trying it next week when I try my next run.

I just taped my SO for IT band application on her way to the gym to run (im being lazy, yes) I'll report back on how she felt.

I plan to use it for knee applications on my next run. hopefully it'll hold up better than a brace..

i've used it on my shin splints and an achilles tendon pain.  seemed to work pretty well...my only complaint is that it will peel easily when under clothes or in bed requiring me to retape the area more frequently.

I've used it on my knee for PFS and ITBS as well as my lower back. I "think" it's effective. Especially the lower back application.

I was also at the R&R LV marathon/half marathon and noticed a lot of it there!  My goodie bag had some KT tape in it which I used immediately after my half to help alleviate the pain from my new friend - plantar facsiitis. When used correctly it appears to be an effective aid for recovery or muscle support.

Most of the injuries that people have taped up are caused by muscle imbalances, and can be fixed by fixing the muscle imbalance that is causing the problem. In the mean time K tape works really well help the athlete continue training until the imbalances are fixed up.

i have use... using it again for left achilles.. this is great stuff.. relieves the strain on the tendon.. because is like an ace-bandage (stretches so there's no movement loss..)

If it stayed on the whole time it actually might have been RockTape.  It is super sticky and supposedly if you put in on right it'll stay on for as long as you want.  I just got a sample from the NorthEast rep and will be trying it out tomorrow for  a run and then a bike.  I will let you all know how it turns out afterword.

I'm interested in using this for my knee but have doubts.  I traded emails with the Spidertech folks and they said that, if applied at least one hour before entering the water, it would last and that it was water resistant.  After swimming, it should be patted dry or allowed to air dry.

If I'm in a race, I don't know that it will ever dry due to sweat.  Does anyone have experience with the full knee application?  Also, does it really have to be applied by a trained professional?

Thanks.

I use it when my knees bother me. I don't use it all the time, only when I'm starting to get some pain. In my n=1 sampling, it is amazing when applied correctly! Much better then any brace I've used in the past.

I think they recommend that. Even IF done by a trained person, the few studies I've seen did not show that it did what the makers claim it can do.

I would file it under "Snake Oil" until some independent studies come out showing that it works. They may be out there but I'm very doubtful.

I would like to hear/read what the docs and therapists on here think about this product.

Last year had a grade III shoulder separation. My PT used it to support my shoulder blade in place, since the ligaments holding it up were completely gone. Worked for me.

no, no experience with knee.. it peels a little under sweat.. i have shaved legs so that adds another obstacle.. but no much of one. they make this stuff call tough skin, it helps.

application.. no a trained professional isn't necessary to apply. but they should show you how.. so you can maximize the usage of the tape.. my physical therapist showed me.. pretty easy..

Good point. Taping or wearing a brace, etc is fine in the short term. But if you are injured, there's a reason that needs to be addressed (unless it was some sort of fluke accident). May not always be a muscle imbalance, but continually taping something is literally just putting a bandaid on the issue, not fixing it.

I don't know enough about kinesio tape to say whether or not it's useful.

my friend who is a PT taped up my husbands knee before his first sprint last weekend.  It came off when he pulled his wetsuit off.  He didn't put it on an hour before like the PP person mentioned so I don't know if it would have helped, but I know pulling the wetsuit down in a hurry proved too much for his.  I agree figure out the muscle imbalance first, but it sounds like a good bandaid while working on the imbalance!

The kind I am familiar with is the kinesioTex (KT) tape. For it's best adhearnce to the skin, the skin should be free of lotions/oils, dry, and the tape needs to be vigorously rubbed once on the skin to heat activate the glue (that's the reason you never use a hairdrier on it....that'd be harmful to the skin).

I really like the tape. There are many different applications for it. There are so many different ways to use it. If shown how to use a taping method, you cannot expect the same results if you apply elsewhere without instruction. The taping can turn into a crutch though. Care needs to be taken that it is for retraining for better painfree movement, and halted once you achieve that goal.
