Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 24m 30s
Overall Rank = 354/400
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 23/26
Pre-race routine:

4:30 a.m. 1 scoop heed with water. Smoothie. 1 cup coffee during commute. Light stretching at the house.
Event warmup:

Interrupted due to lightning. Did about 5 minutes of walking / jogging. Light stretching prior to delayed start time (8 a.m. instead of 7 a.m.)
Swim
  • 11m 4s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 46s / 100 meters
What would you do differently?:

Warm up swim prior to start. Work more on speed and endurance in future workouts.
Transition 1
  • 04m 50s
Comments:

T1 time slow due to weather. Had everything packed in transition bag to keep from getting rained on.
What would you do differently?:

Hopefully no rain next time. Overall think I did okay, but having things packed away in the bag slowed me down.
Bike
  • 38m 19s
  • 10 miles
  • 15.66 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Work on strength (hills) and endurance in training. Drink more frequently.
Transition 2
  • 01m 53s
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - did okay t2.
Run
  • 28m 26s
  • 2 miles
  • 14m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

Shins hurt first 1/2 mile to 1 mile. Had to stop and stretch calf muscles and walk 1 min after about 5 min of running. Felt better the second mile - took it slow and legs seeemed to feel better after warming up a bit.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing until shins heal. Still having lingering pain when running on concrete or not warming up enough.
Post race
Warm down:

Light stretching. Recovery drink.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Shin splints and not much speed training to date. Rain (wet roads) led to being cautious on the bike and longer transition times since all items were still packed in the transition bag.

Event comments:

PEM does a good job with their races in terms of organization and number of volunteers. Good announcer. Could have a bigger post-race party.

Good race!

Shin splints are the pits. I found that only ice and rest will cure these things. Aquajogging will help maintain your fitness.

Keep up the good work!
