Awesome, Andy.  I talked to a bunch of the Colorado BT'ers that did it last year- I guess it got pretty darn hot on the run.  So be careful what you wish for!!!

With the crappy winter we have had here in KS....I am looking forward to some heat and sun except on race day of course.  When are you arriving in Lawrence?

How is the rest of the group coming?  We have had a quiet group....Keep up the good work.

Hey Adam,  sorry for the delay!  I've been a lousy moderator.  I'm planning on driving in on Friday early... getting into town around noon or so hopefully.  Plan is to swim and run Friday.  Saturday I'm going to drive the bike course and do a few miles on the bike before the big day.  I think we might have a convoy from CO driving out there- I'll send you my cell phone # beforehand- getting together for some beers sounds like a great idea!

Race report from today.

This one was swim/bike/run. 400m/20K/5k

Swim: 8:37, a new PR.

T1: 2:42

Bike: 49:41; 14.5 mph average

T2: 1:05

Run: 39:02

TOTAL: 1:41:06.7 55/88 people who started.

First of all, really poor planning on my part.  I signed up for this a few weeks ago and in the meantime, we ended up getting tickets to the Red Wings/Predators game last night, which ended up in an 11 round epic shootout so didn't get home until 2:30. Had to be up at 7 for the tri so yeah....

Weather was horrible as well.  High 40s at race time, 15 mph-ish winds and rain.

Swim was my best yet so very happy with that.  However, I was expecting to be flighted by estimated swim time instead of by entry number so it was a little chaotic.

Thought I was faster out of the pool into my bike gear but took a little time to get a cycling jersey over my wet body and grab a drink.  But since it was my first time going from swim to bike, I'll know more later.

Bike was miserable.  The course is out and back with the out more down than up and vice versa.  The wind was at our backs on the out so yes that means rain, 15 mph headwinds and generally up hill on the way back in.

Felt pretty good about T2 with everything being more or less soaked through.

Same run course but found a weakness in my training:  I need to do more bike/run bricks.  Wasn't very well prepared to run after killing the calves and such on the bike with those hills and headwinds.  So pretty slow run (with a bit of walking).

So had a great swim, bike was a bit slower as I expected, given the conditions but I did pass a few people on the bike.   Run needs to be better.

Well done...I hope you are a Red Wings fan!!!  Keep us posted on your progress.  I am 14 weeks into the KS 70.3 plan and I am finally getting the base needed to see the improvements.

Ha!! You guys are talking to someone who grew up in Chicago and I now live in Denver.   Two of the biggest Red Wings-hating towns on Earth!  Plenty of my friends here grew up in Detroit, so I'll let you guys slide- this time
