This will be my first time to race, but I hear it sells out every year.  Looking forward to it.

It is a very good race.  The swim course is kinda tight for the number of AG's (depending on the wave) 35-39, just over 100 and it was a slug fest for much of the swim.  Other than that, the course is pretty fast with good roads and lots of support.  Good luck to those racing, with it being just a week after Lonestar 70.3, I am not racing it this year.    You can check your bike the morning of the race, some questions had come up about the night before was a mandatory bike check... it was not that way last year.  Just a courtesy if you wanted to use it.

I'm wanting to do this one also, but I can't figure out the online registration. It says only online registrations, but there is no link to it. Has it opened up yet?

Not sure why they didn't put the link on the site. I got an email from the director and he had the links in his email. Here it is

https://thewoodlands.kimbia.com/2010cbitriathlon

It's a great race and really well run. I will be out there either watching or racing. Hope to meet some BT'ers

AWESOME RACE! My opinion....best early year sprint out there. Can't go wrong, wish it wasn't so close to Lonestar now. Doing the 70.3 then cranking it out again the next weekend for this race is going to hurt but oh well, it's worth it! Fills up fast too. Sign up soon!

There appears to be some incontinuity with the website(s) for this race. I am registered and have my confirmation#, thanks to the link someone supplied on this thread. Is there a different race director or sponsor this year from last? Does the course maps from the old website still apply? Anybody know what's up?

Maybe next year.

Would like to do this as I've yet to do it, but being a week after Galveston makes it tough.

Don't be a wuss Stephen (lol). I know I'm not as fast as you (not even close anymore) but I will be doing it. Half at Lonestar, Sprint at CB&I. That sprint is going to hurt. Might be my only chance to catch you, or not.

Historically speaking, is a wetsuit recommended for this race. I don't own one yet, and the lonestar this weekend has most of the rentals spoken for. If its just a comfort thing, then I'll survive. But, if its likely to start cramping etc without one, I'll need to find one quickly.
PS - this will be my first Tri (and first real OWS). Thanks for your input.

I did it last year and I would say about 95% of the folks didn't have a wetsuit.  I did it in just my tri shorts and thought it was just the right temperature.

I've raced it the last two years and have been very comfortable without a wetsuit.

Anyone heading to The Woodlands this weekend to swim the course?  I live nearby, so I'll be out there both Sat and Sunday.

I'm one of the event sponsors, so I will be there. I'm supposed to run a clinic as well, but not sure on that just yet. Come by and say hello, I will probably have a Swim Shops shirt on.

OK, the everdict is in...No wetsuit for me. After seeing those poor souls in Galveston last weekend, I thought I might oughta get one. But, I think I'll tough it out.
I'm really excited...my first tri!!! Already nervous and its only Monday. I've done alot of Marys and 1/2 marys etc, and was fine preping the night before...I think I'll probably have everything check, double checked and packed by tomorrow noon, LOL.

no wetsuit for me either.  no need, it's short swim and not that cold!!  i was amazed at all those people in wetsuits, and it was really funny watching them get in them and fight to get out!! i was just in a tri suit with a speedo underneath for an extra layer.

you'll do great and have a great time!!

It's not about it keeping you warm. Believe it or not even in a 300-500 meter swim wearing a wetsuit can help significantly reduce your speed AND it helps you to have a good swim time while keeping the workload low (hips up and floating) so that you're still fresh for the bike. As long as you've practiced taking it off so you don't eat up the time you've cut off in transition. An athletes should be able to get any wetsuit off in less than 15 seconds. Practice is key. That 15 seconds to get it off.....10-12 seconds of it should be while you're running to your bike so that you're not actually adding that time to your transition. 1-3 seconds while you're standing in front of your bike putting your helmet on and your sunglasses on. All-in-all you might add 1-3 seconds of actual time to your transition taking your suit off, the rest is at the same time your doing stuff you already have to. Lesson of the day, if you can wear a wetsuit, wear it, it's about so more than warmth, especially for those of you that aren't really good swimmers, that's why the pro cutoff water temp is 68 instead of 78 like age groupers, it's too big of an advantage.
