The door frame in my apartment would definitely not hold up if I were to place a chinup bar ontop.

I know many people here have done the P90x program, and I ask you, would this seriously affect the quality of the workouts? Is there an alternative?

Thanks all.

Just skip the chinup exercises. There's plenty of others.

Are you SURE the frame won't hold a chinup bar?

oh no...you must find a place to do the pull ups.  There is almost no substitute.  A phenomenal exercise.  IS there something outside you can use?  Perhaps put a bar up on the back of the garage or something.

I didn't think the door frame would hold me on a chin-up bar either. The "Iron Gym" bar ($30 @ Target) works just fine. It doesn't really pull down on the frame, it leverages on both sides.....get one and you'll see what I mean.

Skipping the pull-ups with p90x would be like skipping the bike portion of triathlon.

There are alternatives. Resistance bands hooked to the top of the door, or ceiling. There is always one person on the vid using the bands. There are also special resistance band setups for this.

For Legs and Back, Chest and Back, Back and Biceps workouts the Back part of those workouts are mostly chinups using different grips to target different muscles, almost half of each workout is pullups. The other option is bands, you can probably get some sort of a door attachment, it will need to be a sturdy door. Bodylastics or Beachbody may have something, they demonstrate using bands to substitute for pullups, but they have a modified attachment for doing them.

I don't have a door frame in my basement so I use the bands.  Don't skip!!!!!!!

I use the bands for everything.  When I first started I hated the bands and was hell-bent on buying weights.  I bought 3,  3/8" lag screw hooks from the hardware for 1.28.   1 went just below the ceiling 1 went chest high and 1 went just above the floor.  The bands work great for these workouts if you don't have to stand on them.

I prefer the bands that clip to a D ring so I can use multiple bands.

As the others have said, it is a very vital part of the program.  Get some bands at a minimum.  I too got the Iron Gym from Target.  It does not put any pressure on the door frame, nor does it have to mount to a frame.  It uses pressure, and the studs of the wall will take it with no problems.  I love my Iron Gym for the pull-ups.  I think they are about $30 or so.
