The brick workout is where you really start to get that triathlon-y feeling. That transition between run and bike taxes your muscles in a way you are probably unaccustomed to. As you train, you should definitely begin to try to work in swim/bike workouts, bike/run workouts, and, if possible, swim/bike/run workouts.
And, no, I don't think your race season sounds crazy! It sounds just right!

I finally finished my workout plan to get me through May 2nd.  Since my focus is a marathon it isn't too intensive on the swimming and biking, but will have me more than ready for an olympic.  The real trick will be figuring out when to get all these workouts in.

Time management is kind of the 4th discipline of triathlon. All of us have lots of things going on in our lives so fitting in these workouts (especially the longer ones) can be tricky. We all have to work this stuff out on our own but I can recommend that early morning workouts are great and evening runs can be a fantastic way to relax before bed. If you can trick (or actually convince) any of your family into doing an event with you, that is even better.

Thanks for the nutrition site!!

How's everybody doing?  I finished my second brick yesterday and had a blast (30 min bike, 30 min run).  I have a 7 mile long run tomorrow and hope to get outside on my bike Sunday.

Have a great weekend!

I totally envy those of you who can ride outside right now. All of us Clevelanders are stuck inside on our trainers. I have to admit that I love my trainer, though, since it gives me the chance to at least be on a bike over the winter. It is way different from stationary bikes at the gym. I hope everyone is doing well!

Yet another week begins.  Today's plan is 1000yd swim, 3mi run, and 30 min on the trainer.  I would ride outside, but my bike is in the shop and I wont have it back till dark.

Guess that means it is Tri Monday......

Wow, nice workout for a Monday!

I spent 30 minutes on the elliptical yesterday and also started the 100 Pushups and 200 Situps Program.  I was able to do 75 situps and 27 pushups without stopping

I promised my 5 yr old we would go to the Y tonight (she loves the childcare room for some reason) so I will be running on the treadmill 4.5 miles.

Have a great day!

People are really logging a lot of great workouts and are doing great off-season work. I think our group is going to be in great shape come the early spring races. Great job, everybody! What is the first race people are planning? I am planning (tentatively) a 1/2 mary in March.

I am looking at a half mary in Apr, but it is a trainer run for the marathon I plan on running two weeks later.  I might do an olypic tri in Jun with my wife, but haven't decided yet.

I've been trying to get my wife to do a tri with me for years. Good for you guys. She just hates to bike. And run. And she's not all that into swimming either. On second thought, maybe triathlon isn't the sport for her.

Took an unscheduled day of rest.  Found out that I will not be getting promoted this year, so I decided to have a few brews today and will get back in the game tomorrow.  Tomorrow was a scheduled day of rest anyways, so it works out.

My first race is this weekend. It is a stair climbing race that I have done for the past couple of years. That is about all of the races we are able to have in the winter on the great north coast (aka Cleveland.) I hope everyone is doing well.

Good luck at the climb up race!  Sounds like fun   Thanks for the inspire, too!

I had a great training week.  Tomorrow is my 8 mile long run.  Long runs are my favorite because you don't have to rush, and you get to snack.

Have a great weekend all!

Hello Everyone,
I'm sorry I haven't been around for a bit. My wife and I accepted a foster placement for a newborn boy so we have been crazy busy lately. I will be trying to keep up with as much as possible wherever possible but I can't promise anything. I will be trying to keep an eye on everybody's progress but this little guy needs a lot of attention so you guys will have to come second, I'm afraid. Wish me luck and I wish you the same!

Good luck with the little one.  Foster parenting can be the difference maker in a child's life who may otherwise be misfortuned.  It is understandable that you have had a switch in priorities.  Again, good luck.
