Buttercup 14334 | Subject: Hurricane Season has arrived! In honor of the first of the season, Tropical Storm Arlene, just before I leave for my CERT meeting where I will be provisioned with a short wave radio to use during hurricane (and post-hurricane), I submit to you the following chuckle: CARL HIAASEN HURRICANE JOURNALISM (from the Miami Herald) Excerpts from The Handbook for Roving Hurricane Correspondents: Welcome to the exciting world of hurricane journalism! While your highly paid colleagues on the anchor desk are broadcasting from the dry safety of a heavily fortified television studio, you and your camera crew will be out in the maw of the storm, risking your lives for no good reason.

Expert 725 Wilmington, NC | Subject: RE: Hurricane Season has arrived! LOL! What a riot! I went through two hurricanes in '96 and was ready to strangle those idiot reporters. I can't imagine what you Floridians went through last year. |

Master 1249 Lexington, Kentucky | Subject: RE: Hurricane Season has arrived! ROTFL. I have often wondered if what would happen if one of these poor bastards was actually hurt or killed by flying debris. Would the producers come to their senses and stop exposing their employees to senseless danger, or would they hype and re-play the loop endlessly? Probably the latter. I've only ever experienced an F1 hurricane, but that was sufficient. |

Wife, Mother, Friend. 2457 South | Subject: RE: Hurricane Season has arrived! tim_edwards I've only ever experienced an F1 hurricane, but that was sufficient. Tim, tornadoes are rated with F's. Hurricanes are categories 1 to 5 with 1 being your basic hurricane with winds of >= 74mph. Goes up to category five with winds >=155mph. There's a storm out there right now, even has a name. Here we're getting some nasty weather right now. guess the swim tomorrow is out. Oh yeah, we went outside bike riding in the middle of Frances!! I even have the pics to prove it. We got out the MTB's and went out around the rain, wind, branches, etc. Yes we watched out for power lines (there are none here). It was calmer then, and we had fun, we were going stir crazy! Then we took the dogs for a walk! Make the best of it. Edited by Lucy 2005-06-10 8:18 AM |

Elite 3223 Hendersonville | Subject: RE: Hurricane Season has arrived! That is hilarious Renee. During one of our storms last year everyone was off of work and it was just a neighborhood party. The weather was beautiful and nobody had anything to do. It was so goofy. It was the storm that was supposed to clobber us but went south instead. I can't keep them straight anymore. Jessica |
