Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:00 and had a peanut butter sandwich and some water. Waited for neighbor to show and then headed downtown. Sipped on some HEED as we drove down. Hung out with the Katy Fit group and talked to some people I knew.
Event warmup:

Trying to make my way through the black corral to get to the green (thanks to the lady who told us to go the wrong way!). Made it to the start line about two minutes before the gun went off.

My 3 hour ride on the trainer yesterday.
Run

Comments:

I hadn't planned on running the half, but my training program for Lonestar called for a 2hr run and I came across a bib so I figured why not. I wasn't sure how this would go since my training program had called for a 3.5 hr bike ride on Saturday and I rode on the trainer for 3 hrs.

My goal was to run in Zone 2 for the first 1.5 hr and then pick it up some and for the last 30 minutes and see if I could make it right at 2 hours. From the start I had a hard time holding it back and couldn't seem to get down past the top of Zone 2 so I figure I would just go ahead and hold it there, but it was still hard to let all of those people run past me. Everything went great and I felt good heading to the half turn around (took a gel 15 min before the race and one at mile 6.5, and kept fluid intake to a minimum, I seem to drink to much and feel full, and this worked great). At the turn around, I picked the pace up and let my HR move up into Zone 3 and just put it in cruise control and gradually sped up. To my surprise I was running well below a 2 hr pace and was looking at 2:55 and thought my legs feel good lets see what they have left. Covered the last 3 miles running about a 7:45 min/mi pace and finished with a 1:52:47. Way better than I was expecting and my legs felt great and never felt the ride from yesterday.

2nd Half Marathon and beat my San Antonio time by 25 mins.
What would you do differently?:

Post race
Warm down:

Stretched and grapped some food to eat on the way home and make it in time for church. Made sure I wore my finisher shirt and got a lot of "You ran the half marathon this morning and still made it to church!"

Thanks for the nice comments, must have just been one of those days.  Getting tested for HR zones and then following the half iron plan has really helped my running the past couple months.  Hopefully Lonestar will go well.
