Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5 and had a couple of Cliff bars. I checked the weather about 10 times to make sure it was going to warm up and flip flopped between shirts a few times. I chose a light long sleeve shirt that I could take off once it warmed up.
Event warmup:

Walk to the start.
Run
  • 3h 23m 33s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 07m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

This was a tale of two halves for me. I started with the 3:40 group so that we could run with some friends. I ran the first half in 1:50, right on pace. I stopped to use the Port-O-John, and came out to find that I couldn't find my wife. I sprinted forward for about 5 minutes with no luck and thought that maybe she ran into the bathroom as well, so I ran back to the 3:50 group looking for her. No luck. So I turned around and took off thinking I would catch up with her eventually. By the time I did, it was mile 16 and I was already cruising(6:10/mi), so I decided just to stick with the pace since I was feeling good. I slowed down a bit, but did the second 13.1 in under 90 minutes. According to my Garmin, I ran the 26.2 in 3:17, but with the stop and running backwards and such my official time is much slower. Still, it was a good day and my legs felt great.
What would you do differently?:

Hmmm...stick with the plan. I wasn't supposed to be racing this; just a leisurely run on V-Day with my wife. I would like to do another later this year and pace it out evenly to shoot for under 3 hours.

Warm down:

walked around waiting for the rest of the group to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

None

Event comments:

Very good race, just needed better drink options at the aide stations.

Performance: Good
Course: It was a nice course. Lots of rolling hills, but despite the complaining, I thought it was well done. It was a beautiful day. My biggest complaint was the lack of powerade at the aide stations. I think the first station that had any sort of sport drink was around mile 10.

Hasn't always been that way.  It took my wife beating me for years before I finally had enough and started to train!

Great job!  Now you have to bring your wife up to Calgary for a bit - the altitude training is helping!!
