Subject: Nathan Race Vests
Hey guys,

So I'm looking into my first "race pack/vest" and am looking into the Nathan ones. Quick question for anyone using a nathan.

Is it possible to pull the hydration bladder out and use that area for storage instead?? I'm curious because I don't like using hydration bladders, I'm just looking for something really light weight that I can store stuff in. (Food, jacket, gloves, etc)

(if not, i'm just going to go with the Inov8 pack which I know doesn't have a bladder, but is about twice as heavy)

Paulettejo - 2010-03-16 9:34 PM I've seen people carrying them w/o the bladder.   I can go bladderless with my UD pack.  Question, does the innov-8 have front pockets?  Those are SOOOO useful!!  If you are thinking for ZG, I know lots of people who go packless, they just pick up a waster bottle for the 11 mile stretch.  Those race belts (the stretchy ones) are really great for storing stuff and they store so much more.  I'm up in the air about a pack for ZG...


I'm just looking into one in general. I'd like something to carry for LONG training runs that I normally wouldn't do, due to a lack of supplies, etc.

I'm pretty sure the Inov8 doesn't have front pockets. That's one reason I really wanna try the Nathan. Those front pockets look AWESOME!

Definitely not planning on a pac or anything for ZG. I was thinking of just carrying two Amphipod bottles the whole time. (Plus I can stash lots of gels, etc in those things)

Have you ever seen those SPI race belts? I have one and loveee it.

The bladder is removable in the Nathan pack.    I love the front pockets, one I place my cell phone (it zips) and the other is open but works great to hold my gels.  There is also another pocket on the top outside that can hold quite a bit.  I also have the nathan race belt that works great also.

I have the Nathan HPL 020.  Bladder is definitely removable. 

I need the hydration on long training runs. I was able to put a few items in with the bladder almost full - extra pr of sox, sport-shield roll on, and 2 pbj sandwiches ... ok so they were a little smushed when I ate em

As I mentioned on another thread,  I'm a big fan.

I bought a High Sierra hydration pack from Costco for $20 that works very well for me. And the bladder and tubes are removable.

It has many different pockets and straps for your bike helmet. I've seen them in other stores since but can't remember which ones specfically.
