Comments: I am happy for my first full marathon. I was able to keep up with the 4 hour pacer until mile 16 and kept the 9:10 min.mile and then I started fall off the pace. After mile 20 it was just a pure grinding session, one foot in front of the other. It pretty much took all my will power to continue. I am came close to walking a couple of times (you know those little voices that say "Just walk for a little bit"), but I knew from experience if I do that I am toast. My wife was there to support me and that helped a lot. What would you do differently?: I definitely need to work on my long distance running. The first half was actually very enjoyable, the pace was easy to keep (something I was not able to do last year). I only did 2 long runs (20 miler and a 16 miler at Umstead). Today was the first time I ever ran more than 20 miles. Post race
Warm down: Walk around, watch my buddy get an IV after finishing his marathon in 3:44 (crazy bastard...;-)...) What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough training, predominantly focused on swimming during off season. Last updated: 2009-12-03 12:00 AM
