New Albany, Indiana
United States
YMCA of Southern Indiana
45F / 7C
Sunny
Total Time = 47m 26s
Overall Rank = 14/101
Age Group = 40-45
Age Group Rank = 1/7
Pre-race routine:

It was cold and windy. Christy came to watch which was cool. No portalets near the start!!!
Swim
  • 06m 34s
  • 328 yards
  • 02m / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

Be more aggressive and try to pass. The swim was in a pool and not congested but crowded (if that makes sense), so everyone was just sort of in-line. Had trouble getting my breathing down. Having said all that, even though this was a very short race that I took as a training run, I was gassed at the swim.
Transition 1
  • 00m 38s
Comments:

This was a reverse tri "super sprint". So bike to run to swim. Wore gloves so had trouble getting them and my helmet off. Ending up pulling the chinstrap over my head and ripping off my sunglasses as well. Picked up and ran with my swim goggles in hand.
Bike
  • 24m 25s
  • 8.77 miles
  • 21.55 mile/hr
Comments:

Had fun on the bike. Was fairly fast for me. Tried to keep up cadence even when going through switchbacks on the course.
What would you do differently?:

Drink some, corner better/faster
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Initial pair of goggles broke at the nose bridge, so I am really glad I ran with my other pair.
Run
  • 15m 49s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

Started to cramp initially, I thought about walking and drinking some fluids, but trusted my body. And the cramping went away! Actually quickened and alongated my pace. Basically really enjoyed this short run.

Event comments:

Fun training race. Very well organized.
