Overcast
Total Time = 1h 37m 48s
Overall Rank = 262/644
Age Group = M 25-29
Age Group Rank = 34/37
Pre-race routine:

I woke up at 3:30 and had a cup of coffee with oatmeal. Got to Kemah shortly after five to pickup my packet. It was nice to be really early and not have to rush. I ate a banana about an hour before the start.
Event warmup:

Took a couple strokes in the water and stretched.
Swim
  • 15m 56s
  • 500 meters
  • 03m 11s / 100 meters
Comments:

This was a difficult swim for me. It was my first time swimming into waves, and it was difficult. The last half of the swim was much better with the waves pushing me in towards the finish.
Transition 1
  • 04m 26s
Comments:

Was a pretty good run from the swim to transition. I ran the entire way, so I am happy with that. My left calf started to cramp when I got to transition, luckily it lasted for just a couple of seconds. I am always surprised with how long I spend in transition.
Bike
  • 44m 34s
  • 12.5 miles
  • 16.83 mile/hr
Comments:

Slower than I was hoping for. I didn't feel like I got into a grove until the halfway point. The data supports this, about 16mph for the first 7 miles, and 18-19 on the rest.
Transition 2
  • 03m 11s
Comments:

Felt good in this transition. I took time to put socks on, and I had to make a pit-stop in the port-a-potty.
Run
  • 29m 41s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

Stopped briefly at mile 1 and 2. Happy to be sub 10 miles.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was in New Orleans the week before, and I was sick from Sunday night to Wednesday. I was afraid I would miss it, but I am glad I was able to race.

The reason you didn't feel like you were in your groove on the first half of the bike was because of the headwind.  You got your groove back when it got behind you after the turn around.  Nice job and congrats on the finish, man.
