Total Time = 1h 18m 26s
Overall Rank = 79/
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 15/40
Pre-race routine:

One hour drive with coffee and whole wheat bagel with PB.
Event warmup:

Ran back to car to get my sunglasses. That was it!
Swim
  • 12h 32m
  • 500 meters
  • 2h 30m 24s / 100 meters
Comments:

This was awesome. Ages 30-39 all started together. The out portion of the swim had waves and current galore. Some dudes were really struggling. I stayed very hydrated with a larger than expected intake of saltwater. Sighting was non-existent for me as well. I just sort of swam "out". Really this was so choppy that an actual swim stroke was never really realized. All this being said it was the most fun I have ever had in a Tri swim. It isn't supposed to be easy!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. The conditions dictated the outcome more than I did.
Transition 1
  • 03m 30s
Comments:

Long run from swim exit to T1. Like 3 blocks long. T times were slow but everyone had to do it so no big deal.
What would you do differently?:

Not ran past my rack.
Bike
  • 39m 20s
  • 12.5 miles
  • 19.07 mile/hr
Comments:

Started out immediately going over the Kemah bridge. It wasn't that the climb was all that hard. It was more that the climb started about 400 meters from the bike start and I still had my swim legs. After the climb you went down the north side of the bridge and made an immediate turn underneath and swung around to the other side and climbed up the other side. Good times!

We had a head win for the entire out portion. It was about what I expected. It was nice with the wind at your back for the last 5 miles.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder on the out.
Transition 2
  • 01m 17s
Comments:

My rack was the furthest possible point from the run start so this was a good T2 time.
What would you do differently?:

nada
Run
  • 21h 25m 2s
  • 3 miles
  • 7h 08m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

Experienced some lower back stiffness on the left side. Not a big deal but slowed me down a little. Did not run with my Garmin and not knowing my pace bothered me? Weird, I know. I should have done the run about 2 minutes faster.
What would you do differently?:

Wear Garmin
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out with Tri Club and had a pizza and some bananas.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing really.

Event comments:

Aaron and the guys did a really nice job with this being the inaugural race. I will do this again next year, probably do the Oly to get to ride a boat and swim the current in.

Woohoo, nice job!! Sometimes the conditions dictate how you'll do, and sometimes you dictate how you do. I'm so glad you took it all in stride, and did super amazing despite the rocky swim!!

Great Race! Less than ideal conditions on the swim.  I was down there for Oly check in... Y'alls swim might have been tougher than ours! Swimming outbound in that mess - tough-ola!

Once again ~ good job!
