Total Time = 1h 20m 30s
Overall Rank = 145/601
Age Group = Mountain Bike
Age Group Rank = 1/Mtn.B.
Pre-race routine:

First time soo... Carb load the nice before, wake up at 0430, coffee, banana, raisin bran, clif bar, and freeze my butt off until the start.
Event warmup:

Stretched by the pool.
  • 08m 36s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards

Surprised at my swimming ability compared to how I thought I was going to do. Felt great but need to work on swimming with people. Tried breathing on the left side and.... epic fail.
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster. Learn to breath on both sides. Tried breathing on the left side and.... epic fail.
Transition 1
  • 02m 55s

What would you do differently?:

Move faster.
  • 52m 2s
  • 12.74 miles
  • 14.69 mile/hr

Holy smokes.... HILLS! Well more like 2 mountains but besides that I felt great on the bike. I could be wrong about the course being extremely hilly because this was the first time I rode my bike on a hilly outside course.
What would you do differently?:

Train for hills more and get up to speed faster.
Transition 2
  • 00m

Went well. No clipless pedals so just hopped of the bike and I was ready to go. Oh wait.. I could not get my freaking biking gloves off...
  • 19m 51s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 23s  min/mile

I think I might have been on a traithlete high or something. I don't think I have run a sub-20 5K since high school. Needless to say I was pleased with my time and felt great!
What would you do differently?:

I feel like I could have pushed myself a little harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Drink some water and cheer my friend on.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Coldness and fear of overdoing it and wearing myself out.

Event comments:

Great race and seemed well organized. Zero post race anything.
