Total Time = 1h 21m 54s
Overall Rank = 168/600
Age Group = Over 40 Clydes
Age Group Rank = 7/25
Pre-race routine:

Got there early - they had us park across the street, said the parking lot was full, we walked about 1/2 mile to event, passed open spaces all over the lot by the event - oops
Event warmup:

walked around saw some folks
Swim
  • 04m 18s
  • 275 yards
  • 01m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

well we did bunch up on the end getting out - pretty happy with the times, some girl tried to pass me and did a flip turn on end, passed her in the lane never saw her again, could have passed the guy in front but there were 4 people in front of him, so no need to pass.
What would you do differently?:

Seat higher on swim time - always an issue with snake swims with people and swim times.
Transition 1
  • 01m 8s
Comments:

Assigned racks so I had to go all the way to the end of the transition area to get to bike mount, no biggy
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 42m 40s
  • 13 miles
  • 18.28 mile/hr
Comments:

Hills and wind - ouch - average 13 mph into the wind on hills, it was hard - overall OK on the ride but the wind did hurt - got passed by 3 guys on disc wheels, I am sure they had fun in the wind, ended up passing about 6 to 10 people overall. The overall distance was 13 miles that is what my Garmin said so I will go with that.
What would you do differently?:

Ride into the wind on hills training. I feel that I could have gone faster without the wind maybe could have gotten to 20 on the ride
Transition 2
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

Ok, could not get my left foot into my shoe, sat down - I know major screw up and worked on getting the darn thing on. Finally got it going and off to the run
What would you do differently?:

dry feet is the only thing I can think of, or new shoes, maybe watch a video on how to put freakin shoes on.
Run
  • 32m 24s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 27s  min/mile
Comments:

Well, I ran without socks, and got blisters on both heels at 1 mile, just kept running and blocking the heel pain. I believe I could have gotten down to 9 minute mile but the heels said "I don't think so" - overall happy. I wanted to start with 10min for the 1st mile and then knock it down to 9 min for the 2nd and then just run out for the last mile.
What would you do differently?:

One, run without socks during short run training or put on socks or get new shoes. I don't know but will try running without socks more and see what happens.
Post race
Warm down:

Said hello to some buddies, watched my wife and others finish the race

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Really the wind on the bike and the blisters on the heels, are the only thing that I believe hit me the most. The first race for the season so I'm OK with it.

Event comments:

OK, DA runs a smooth event and really everything was fine until waiting for the results, really does it take 7 hours to post results, I mean come on, the race is over at 11:00am and the results show up at 6 PM - I mean this is not an Ironman, it is a sprint race, come on DA this is the issue that hit you last year at this race - OK - I am off my box now!!
