Subject: Nutriation for someone who works Shift Work
So right now I work midnights for two months and day shift for one month. So I'm trying to find a nutritional program that will work or makes sense for my midnight shifts. Should I eat big meals in the middle of the night when my body knows it's suppose to be asleep or eat heavy carbs in the morning when I get off work before I get ready for bed. I split sleep, meaning I sleep from 8a-noon then I'm up for a bit. Go to the gym, then lay back down from 2-4p then again for about an hour at 8pm.

So I'm trying to see if there is anyone else like this out there and see what they do.

Thanks

I just started working midnights again and I sleep from about 0700 to 1500. I just treat my meals like I would if the hours were reversed. I don't eat before bed but eat a hearty breakfast/lunch when I wake up.

I work 1900 to 0700. I have given up on the traditional idea of meal times. I generally eat about reverse times of if I was a normal person and not a vampire. Usually works well, except I can't eat much after 0400 or I get sick when I swim after work.

I do shift work as well and I just adjust my meals to whenever I am up that week. If I am waking up at 15:00 hrs, breakfast is at 15:30, lunch is at 19:00 or whenever, etc etc

When i worked a mid shift i upped my protein content and backed off my carbs some, there are studies suggesting the body does not metabolize carbs as well on a reverse cycle schedule. I also had ZERO hunger while working nights, and found if i did not increase my protein intake, my body would eat itself and I would lose weight rapidly, but muscle weight. I could never make gains on mids, only maintain. It was rough.
