Overcast
Total Time = 1h 08m 16s
Overall Rank = 54/164
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 4/45
Pre-race routine:

Got up, got away from hotel with a mini bagel, banana and coffee (50/50 caf-decaf). Really not much of a routine given how tired I felt going into this race.
Event warmup:

None, okay maybe walking around.
Swim
  • 09m 47s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

Easy swim, kept legs out of it and focused on just plowing thru the crowded swim. They had the half-iron and sprint folks intermixed, made for a very crowded swim.
Transition 1
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

Good transition, no real challenges.
What would you do differently?:

Not much - one of my cleaner exits
Bike
  • 36m 36s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 20.38 mile/hr
Comments:

Only people who passed me were tri-bikes on the return leg....ability to tuck out of the wind was key on the sprint
Transition 2
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

First time I unclipped and pulled my right leg over the back of the bike while riding. Thought I was going to dump it but was able to pull it off. Probably not wise to go out doing that for the first time in a race, but what the hell.
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Run
  • 19m 36s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

Hot, hard run...
Post race
Warm down:

Beer - several free fat tires...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Sleep deprivation

Event comments:

For a first time event they did well, needed to better manage the volunteers at the finish / transition but all in all things went well. WOW - 4th overall - I REALLY am amazed....

Course: THERE IS NO WAY THIS IS RIGHT. Looking at the time across the Sprint, the course has to be about a 1/2 mile short. That would put me right at a 7:3x pace, which is what I showed on my watch for the first mile marker, and I felt like I got my legs in mile 1-2...so NO Way did I lay down sub 7's for the rest of the run... but hey... it was a fast run ;)

Hello

Good race and report.

I had the same thought about the Sprint run so I am sure you are right about the distance being short. I just ran the race as it was set up and enjoyed it.

I did like  having the race right here in my home town and plan to race again next year.

Enjoy the rest of your season.
