Sunny
Total Time = 2h 26m 21s
Overall Rank = 47/270
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 17/53
Pre-race routine:

got up, drank coffee, water, drank an equate from walmart and ate a banana. loaded up the car.
Event warmup:

didn't have time or place to do much but swam around a little.
Swim
  • 23m 5s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 32s / 100 meters
Comments:

I was still coughing up lungs all week and missed all but 1 of my workouts so needless to say, I was feeling incredibly flat, drained, and not ready to race.
What would you do differently?:

not get sick.
Transition 1
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

Man, I was ready to rock the bike after that mediocre swim but didn't feel like I was on top of my game. cough, cough...
Bike
  • 1h 09m 32s
  • 24.8 miles
  • 21.40 mile/hr
Comments:

I couldn't get down enough water. I was CONSTANTLY thirsty. I think I was just dehydrated from being under the weather all week. I was pissing light yellow all week so I don't know what was up.

I knew it wasn't going to be a good bike time when in the first 5 miles my legs were taxed from hammering already. Many my body did NOT want to race today that's for sure...and it was leeting me know it.
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

this T2 was a little better than T1 but I was so worried about my health and not running my body into the ground today since I'm going into my 2nd to last 3-week build for IMWI.
Run
  • 50m 37s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

man, after a mile of doing my regular "race pace" I knew I was gonna blow a gasket if I didn't slow down. my body just wasn't in any condition to be redlining it.

so I ended up going at my training pace (about zone 2) for the rest of the run. basically a jog pace.
What would you do differently?:

I probabaly wouldn't have raced as hard on the bike and just took the race day as a nice easy training day but it's so hard to not be competitive.

my body would have faired much better if I just took it easy and kept the big "IMWI" trng picture in mind.

Sheesh, I wish my healthy speeds could be as good as your sick speeds. Dang. Nice job despite the illness. Hope you're feeling better!

What good timing for your question.  I'm just slowly climbing out of my "I hate this sh!t" spell.

From my experience, I know that I get them and I know that they will pass but it doesn't make them any less real when I'm in them.

Despite that, I'm physically ready to cap off my training with my last two 3-week build ups and just need to focus on mentally ready on race day.

Dude, you're going to rock Racine and IM-Moo.

Your sick/jogging pace still is faster than my best effort while being healthy.    I'd like to blame it on lack of taper, but hands down you're just faster.  :D

This was definitely good fun and a race I plan to do again next year.

Great race for you!

Sorry to read that you felt so bad, but it looks like you turned in an impressive time regardless. Rest up and keep it rolling Steve.

Steve....sorry you felt under the weather...but many your sick times are fast....hope you get better soon and get feeling better about training. You are doing a big race for an important goal...helping your wife and others. You are inspirational to me and many others here on BT. You inspired me to get a coach and now I'm getting better, like training more, getting a little faster, and feel better mentally about Tris.

Nice race..stay healthy...train hard...and show us an awesome race at IM Moo!!
