Who's in?

My training has suffered from a busy schedule.  Starting Saturday (may 8) life should return to normal.

Goals:  I hope to improve on last year's time.  Race test the wetsuit in the swim and T1.  Have fun.  NOt get injured.

I noticed the race link here is linked to last years race on may 31, 09.  my race log shows it as may 23, 10.  i verified with the ultra fit websight - the race is May 23 2010.

I did this race las year and liked it alot.  Do it.

one week to go.

anyone else in?

I looked at my race report from last year.  my ride was horrible.  i knew thrn that i was having bike troubles.

i think i have fixed them since I rode a half iron man faster than this 13 mile course later in thesummer.

my goal is to drop 5 minutes from last year - most of it on the bike.

wet suit trial done - now to try it in the race!  -maybe i'll have a 5 minute transition

the race link that already existed has all of the history of the race and actually shows up as the right date in my race log.  it is just the wrong date written in the race link

PS you have it listed as being raced in Alabama.

i am mostly packed and ready for tomorrow.  i just found out a friend is doing it too so  that will make it even better.

Yea....definitely screwed that up......would be a long drive to Alabama. Hope I can race tomorrow better than I can enter race details online!

Should be a good time....looking to take 3-4 minutes off my time last year. Just going to have fun and push hard.

Water temp 62-64F as of Wed. Gonna be a bit chilly (no wetsuit).

you are very brave for going wetsuitless - though i think it would up being decent temp waterwise and theair was hot.

hope you fared well.  i managed to cut 3 minutes off last year. i'll post RR soon.

A bit on the nippy side......as I looked around our wave before the start, I noticed only 1 other without a wetsuit. Didn't cross my mind after we started though.

Nice job out there today. I noticed your name up near the top of your AG (3rd or 4th I think)....maybe in the 1:08 range? THAT is smok'in fast. Look forward to you race report.

They were having issues with the chip timing and kept changing the finish order. A couple of people were not even listed.

I dropped about 2 minutes from last year, but it felt like it should have been more (to me). Pleased though.

Have a good one.

Hi all,

I raced the Tri-Tech Ohio Challenge today--my first triathlon! I just wanted to write and say a big thank you to everyone that was there who made this a positive experience for me.  The only condescending remark I got all day was from another woman, so much for us being the fairer sex.  Other than that one stuck-up chick, I found all the athletes and event staff to be very helpful and informative before, during and after. The support from the other athletes was very motivating. I had a swell time and will be racing at least two other triathlons this season.  My time was around 1:32 in the 30-34 AG so there is room for improvement but that's what it's all about, right?

Cheers, Barbara

This was my first triathlon as well. Was really a really nice experience. Was very happy with my performance considering that for a variety of reasons I wasn't able to train for it.

Congrats to all the first timers !!  I had planned to either go from Duathlons to Triathlons this year, or move up to Oly distance Duo's this year, since I haven't been swimming since last Sept., Oly Duo's it is   I've been lurking for a long time, but just now posting for the first time.

Did anyone use a Garmin on the course, particularily the duathlon to get a read on the overall run distances?  The reason I ask is for trying to figure out my pace during the runs, and use them to set an approx. pace for the Oly distance this year, I was gonna use the splits in this race to judge my pace for Deer Creek Duathlon Olympic distance.  Since the splits were lost for this race, and not posted, I tried to reconstruct my times based on my bike computer and my Garmin (used for the runs), but things aren't adding up.  Did anyone else use a GPS to measure the runs on the Duathlon, and if so - were the runs 2 miles and 3.1?  If the course was this long, I had some awesome run times(for me), to go along with my much improved bike times.... Woo-Hoo.

Things just aren't adding up, but it could be I didn't stop / start the watch right ( I get in a funk during racesCool  Again, I realize things happen, but if someone did measure the course, it may help me figure out my times, and better decide on a pace for Deer Creek.  I know for sure I stopped my timer about a minute late, and there's no way I ran 36 mins. for 5.1 miles, unless I failed miserably operating my watch Cry

Again, congrats to all, it was a fun race.  I wish I would jumped in the lake afterwards.....Surprised

bruehoyt is right. Course appears to be dead on, except maybe the swim. I used a Garmin during the triathlon. As expected, the swim leg is a bit goofy as the 310XT doesn't work under water (and I didn't want to try the GPS under swimcap method). However, it did read as 0.52mi including the walk to the transition area. The bike and run legs read as 13.07mi and 3.12mi respectively, which is nearly exactly what they advertised.

And thanks for the warm welcome!

OK, thanks for the distance info.  I musta screwed up using my 310.  I'm sure I started it at the start of the Duo, but it only seems to have measured just over 1.5 miles for the first run, so I assume i musta messed up somehow, in any event, looking at Garmin Connect, I can see my pace and think I have the time estimate I need.

Thanks again to all!
