I have been watching the website for the Grand Haven Triathlon for weeks now. I could not sign up until today. They advertised that they were offering Jersey's instead of T-shirts and that is one of the reasons I chose it. We made plans around it and got a sitter. Today I go to the site to sign up and there is a notice that the jersey's are all gone and went to only the first 200 people to sign up, something that was not there before. Now they will be offering T-shirts, for more money than the jersey's because of late fees (which I have no problem paying). I don't know if I should just skip this race. Yes I am all pissy about a jersey. I have race T-shirts, from running, coming out of my ears. I race for nice shirts! they also cancelled the kids TRi. Is this just poor planning and if this is how it is before the race is this a good place for me to go to my first tri?

Well that just sucks!  If the race has been around and has a good reputation, then do it.  Good luck!

I paid my money and signed up for the race. I am, after all, racing for me and not the shirt. I did send an e-mail to the promoters but I suspect that will not net me a shirt.

Shirts are always nice. They are like vintage rock Tees to me, but with a more personal connection as I know what I went through in the race. That is my attachement. Yes, there are some ugly ones, but everytime put on a race shirt, I remember the cramps, the sweat, passing people, getting passed, hating it, loving it, and last but not least, my time. Every time. So, yes the T-shirt is somewhat important, but don't let it affect your race attitude. Poor planning on their part is no excuse. I am sure you will get something out of it besides the experience.
Another good SW Michigan Tri is Three Rivers. It is Olympic distance. I am up in the air on doing this race, as I am locked in to races before and after that race, and my body needs the break at times.
Look into the 3 rivers, or... there is one in Ft. Wayne, and that isn't all that far away either!
